Captivating Starlets @ Hollywood Film Festival 2012: Part 1

Rosie Fellner in “Two Jacks”

 alt=

It’s been a while since I’ve given plaudits towards a British/Irish sweetheart and Rosie Fellner has a graceful magnetism certain to make us smile. Hearing how she loves being part of telling great stories is why she’s often regarded as being compelling onscreen. Rosie’s appearance in the thriller “Two Jacks” opposite Sienna Miller and Danny Huston should give ample time to digest her beguiling versatility and guess what she actually plays Lily, an American in the film. Having seen pics of Rosie on the set of “Two Jacks”, she has a seductive edge, adding to the allure she can so easily depict so Rosie’s got my vote…:)

Hannah Levien in “The Devout”

 alt=

Hannah Levien is in a string of interesting features which will have steadily see her becoming prominent in the eyes of viewers. She has a starring role in “The Devout”, a grim short set during the plague-filled years when the Black Death caused pestilence around the world. Her wonderfully emotive performance as Emery, one of 2 saviors whom a medieval English village turn to after long besieged by a creature. Putting herself in conflict with her preacher brother, it’s science vs the word of god to provide much-needed redemption. She’s yet another wonderful talent from Australia and one with lots of enchanting presence.

Kinga Philipps in “Thriftstore Cowboy”
 alt=

Her gift for playing a myriad of female personas is definitely worthy of adoration. While she is regularly seen on TV either in hit shows or as a host on several programs, she’s been entertaining in indie features as well. In “Thriftstore Cowboy”, a gritty cowboy flick she’s Trish Shelton, a southern bartender who is seemingly down on her luck but there’s a tough streak underneath that gets her through the day. It’s got a great ensemble of characters and Kinga has the foxy appeal to instill a wave of excitement. With her capacity to take on strong roles with a semblance of fragility, Kinga is going to be intently watched and desired.

America Young & Alyshia Ochse in “Lost On Purpose”

 alt=  alt=

America Young and Alyshia Ochse are two shining examples of actresses who are mesmerizing as they are a delight in their own right. While we are deprived of a trailer for “Lost Purpose” where both are in supporting roles, both America and Alyshia are dazzling our world on a number of platforms. Alyshia was the beautiful ‘Woman In White’ on the popular soap “General Hospital” while America is intriguing the web domain with her fun series “Geek Therapy”. There’s surely one word that best represents these two talented ladies whose names start with “A” and that is Amazing…:)

Enchanting Hotties at Los Angeles Film Festival 2012

Michelle Clunie in “Magic Mike”

 alt=

Michelle Clunie appears opposite Matthew McConaughey in “Magic Mike” as his girl and take it from me, the comedy is heavy on testosterone but there’s more than enough talented vixens on show. On top of being ravishing, we’ve had crushes on the “Queer As Folk” star because she adept at pushing the envelope onscreen. Slated to dazzle in the off-Broadway play “US”, a 21st century love story during our time of constantly evolving media, Michelle has become a figure of admiration.

Teresa Palmer in “Bear”

 alt=

When it comes to choosing a soulmate, I reckon Teresa Palmer comes pretty close as being a first choice for most. Not just because she went topless in the intense slow-burner of an Aussie thriller “Restraint” but because she has a sereneness about her. Since then, she’s cut her teeth on sci-fi, comedy and the shocking short film “Bear”. All I have to say 11 minutes might be a tad too short to admire Teresa onscreen but what we get is sheer magnetism from this fascinating blonde starlet.

Leslie Murphy in “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”

 alt=

Leslie Murphy is becoming quite the regular face on this blog and with good reason. The beguiling redhead is in “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”, starring alongside Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. Her laudable turn as a feisty love interest in “White Irish Drinkers” back in 2010 got her instant approval from reviewers and moviegoers alike, with one calling her a firecracker. In her case, it’s not just Irish eyes that are smiling for there are surely plenty awaiting her next feature.

Clare Bowen in “Dead Man’s Burden”

 alt=

A little reminiscent of Jennifer Lawrence in her riveting performance from “Winter’s Bone”, Australian actress Clare Bowen makes her own bold statement in “Dead Man’s Burden”. Just as she did in the under-rated child-harvesting thriller “The Clinic”, she’s a picture of strength in the moody western as a woman whose brother seemingly returns from the dead. With so many dramatic roles under her belt, Clare is being touted as a future leading lady…:)

Amber Benson in “Laura Keller, NB”

 alt=

Post-Buffy, Amber Benson has grown into her own as an indie darling and it seems she is tailor-made to shine in the genre. Her projects are as diverse as they are emotional, bordering on our inner desires and the complications that so often follows. In the short “Laura Keller, NB”, she’s a woman who learns of her permanent sterilization in a world of over-population. Intriguing at its core, this is another role for Amber that defines how accomplished an actress she is.

Aussie Vixen: Kelly Walker

 alt=  alt=

Australian actresses are becoming the apple of many a director’s eye and KELLY WALKER is one lady we’ll be hearing a lot about soon. Just like Hanna Mangan- Lawrence who came from nowhere to headline “Spartacus:Vengeance” as well as superstar Teresa Palmer, the future augurs well for KELLY. Already her appearance in much talked about first installment in the web series “Sync!” by Corridor Digital would get her much exposure. Especially since Episode 1 has amassed 300,00+ views since its release on youtube. What better than a tale set in the year 2025 when mankind has created the first computerized human and with a sweetheart such as KELLY playing a significant part in the evolving story.

While she may have dropped her Aussie accent since her move from Brisbane to LA, she’s every bit as perky and its that every fun personality viewers will come to adore. You may have seen her debut in “Boogeyman 2″ followed by a supporting role in oddball horror flick “Panman” and she’s been shining in several comedic webisodes. The KELLY WALKER OFFICIAL SITE is the best resource to check out her latest endeavors onscreen. If you’re as passionate about demure Blondes with an appealing factor, remember the name KELLY WALKER, a rising starlet in the making!

Aussie Vixen: Hannah Levien

 alt=  alt=

In honor of Australia Day, today’s spotlight is on the radiant Australian actress HANNAH LEVIEN. It was in the role of a teenage runaway from the jarring flick “The Horseman” that I first came across HANNAH. The Horseman tells of the killing spree a man undertakes after first finding out his daughter (played by HANNAH) is dead and later discovering a tape of her heavily doped up, being forced to perform lewd acts in an adult movie. As he executes his ultimately gory revenge on the people responsible for his family tragedy, the disturbing themes multiply as a web of conspiracy is eventually revealed. Thumbs up to HANNAH for shining in an intense role and you will find out she’s a very capable dramatic actress. Take a look at the HANNAH LEVIEN OFFICIAL SITE to learn more about her.

She’s been called an extraordinary talent, her soulful blue eyes enabling her to emote some of the more gripping moments onscreen, therefore to be taken in by her is effortless. Captivation comes in many forms and hers is emitted so naturally, it glows! HANNAH has also recently branched into comedy as part of ‘The Mort Eclectic’ who are breathing new life into funny moments the entertainment world tends to throw up. With her versatility as a performer, this fair-skinned cutie could very well be your Delight From Down Under.

Aussie Vixen: Carmel Savage

 alt=  alt=

Swooning over Australian actresses with regularity is a bona fide pleasure and the vivacious charmer CARMEL SAVAGE makes adoring her a breeze. Not only is this cherubic cutie photogenic, she has an encompassing appeal that’s heavenly. She’s one of the leads in “The Killage” which is the opening feature at the Bram Stoker Film Festival on Friday 28th October and the very occasion to catch the up and coming CARMEL. In the film, she’s all opulent conceit as Hannah, the yuppie bitch who is in a party of 11 recruits on a work retreat where a killer lurks within one of them. ‘Why so serious?’, the now iconic phrase uttered by Heath Ledger would be the apt illustration of the direction this Aussie Comedy/Horror takes. We’ve seen a new breed of slashers that have reinvented the wheel recently (Tucker and Dale Vs Evil, Detention come to mind) and “The Killage” capitalizes on its amusing personification of horror stereotypes. CARMEL is delectable in the trailers (above ) and it’s great to see the princesses of indie horror embracing their femininity more than ever, provoking desire and attentive captivation.

Her performance in another horror flick “Still Waters” which was an Official Selection at the recent Cannes should generate even more buzz for this sweetie. Like how Teresa Palmer transplanted herself from Australia to LA to become a sensation, CARMEL is aiming to go from hometown honey in her native Queensland to Hollywood Hottie as she pursues a bright career ahead. By now most have heard how Director Baz Lurhmann tapped a newcomer from Melbourne to star alongside Leonardo Di Caprio in “The Great Gatsby” and that’s why we need to keep our pulses on Miss CARMEL SAVAGE, Aspiring Starlet.

Sizzling Ladies At Fantastic Fest 2011

Julie R. Ølgaard & Synnøve Macody Lund in “Headhunters”

 alt=  alt=
 alt=

Julie R. Ølgaard is an award-winning actress who is also one of the most charismatic actresses that have ever graced the Danish Film scene. Formerly a student at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in LA, she returned to her native Denmark and swiftly began dazzling the industry over there. Famed for being the missing woman (the US remake calls her Rosie Larsen) so central in the hit Danish series “The Killing”, Julie has heaps of magnetism that it wouldn’t be inconceivable for anyone to want to rescue her. She’s appearing in the fast-paced heist thriller “Headhunters” screening at Fantastic Fest that promises to be hugely exciting. Fellow Blonde Synnøve Macody Lund is the film’s obvious leading lady who is nude in a number of scenes on her debut. What better than to be mesmerized by this pair of Danish Vixens.

Ashley Bell in “The Day”

 alt=

She announced her arrival as an intense actress with an emotional tidal wave of a performance in “The Last Exorcism”. As Nell Sweetzer, Ashley Bell’s version of the Linda Blair-like demonic possession dispenses with the pea vomit, opting for a scarred psyche and some astounding back contortions which she gamely performed herself without any CGI! She’s making a habit of being a survivor onscreen be it from The Devil or the horrors of an apocalypse such as in “The Day”. It’s “Mad Max” meets “The Road” as Ashley wields her 9mm Berretta and shotgun in the face of impeding death. The psychedelic rock from “Explosions In The Sky” in the teaser (above) already foretells of the disquiet tension before the storm for this must-see film. Yet another demanding role in which Ashley will evidently ace!

Emma Lock In “The Human Centipede:Full Sequence”

 alt=  alt=

About to play a major part in “The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence”, Emma Lock is destined to achieve cult status by the time this even more controversial sequel ends its run. She’s in the largely British cast who have been tasked to deliver on the ’100% medically inaccurate’ shocks that shook up the genre last year and spawned such a cultural phenomenon (South Park’s Centipad comes to mind)! Emma is a multilingual model/actress of Spanish/Chinese descent with eternally enchanting features. Hailing from West London, she has performed in indie films, theatre productions and has even done voice over work for BBC radio. Have a peek at the teaser trailer of her new thriller Drive-By-Sunset”. Emma is sweetly captivating as there’s a whole lot of sensual intrigue behind her doe-eyes and lively innocence..

Katy Mixon in “Take Shelter”

 alt=  alt=

Jessica Chastain is proabably getting the plaudits as she has done all year but don’t forget there’s another talented lady in the existential drama “Take Shelter”. Just like the hallucinatory themes of the film, we’ll be fantasizing about Katy Mixon even if she’s more of a supporting act this time around. The helium-voiced, busty beauty has been heating up TV land for years in popular series “Eastbound and Down” as well as “Mike and Molly” utilizing that kooky sex appeal of hers. Audiences are calling her eminently watchable on “Mike and Molly” and at the very least should have been nominated as Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy (leading lady Melissa McCarthy did triumphed as Best Actress). While we may certainly lust after this sassy Sex Symbol, its those helpings of Southern Belle geniality that keeps us coming back for more.

Sharni Vinson in “You’re Next”

There’s really heaps of thunder from Down Under when referring to the impact of Australian Actresses and their invasion of the US Film market. Expect Sharni Vinson to provide some of it as this cutie stars in “You’re Next”, the all-the-rage horror entry at this year’s Fantastic Fest. Touted as the new “Scream”, the smart home invasion flick could transform Sharni into a household name not unlike how Neve Campbell is often put on the pedestal for being a Terror Hottie. And because she posed for Maxim Australia, I’ll let it slide that “You’re Next” doesn’t have a trailer out yet. Plus it’s now under the Lionsgate label and we all know how fantastic their stable of films have been. Ogle at her behind the scenes Maxim shoot (above)…her sexy accent, carefree hair and supple bod (which we saw plenty in Step Up 3D) is quite the arousing factor!

New Zealand Vixen: Robyn Malcolm

 alt=  alt=

Rounding off the specials on the hotties that are glaming up TIFF 2011 that’s ending in style today is the vivaciously sexy Robyn Malcolm. An esteemed actress of the stage and screen, Robyn has distinguished herself on television as well as theatre productions becoming one of New Zealand’s most respected personalities. Her solidly layered performances as the unshakable Cheryl West on “Outrageous Fortune” had even Australian audiences hooked and welcomed her with open arms. One of many priceless scenes as Cheryl involves belting her daughter square in the kisser more than once if i might add and furthermore no one can forget the time she stripped down to her bra. Befittingly in 2010, Robyn was voted Best Actress for the fifth consecutive year and Sexiest Woman for the third consecutive year in the 2010 TV Guide Best on the Box Awards…that’s a remarkable feat for any female talent regardless of geography.

Although hers is a supporting role in the audacious drama “Burning Man” which she spent a great part of a year delving into, everyone will have eyes on her. Known for laying bare the souls of the characters she plays, intimating emotional states with a penetrating resonance. At a time when the world is passionately watching the Rugby World Cup in Wellington, New Zealand, it’s great to see a KIWI actress creating buzz on the other side of the world in Canada. It is essential to speak highly of the substantial contributions a luminary such as Miss Robyn Malcolm has made in entertainment.
