It’s a Carnival of Horror this weekend as the 11th Edition of Shriekfest which runs from September 29th till 2nd October returns to put the fear in you. Shriekfest founder DENISE GOSSETT has promised a Screaming Good Time as audiences will be treated to the best in independent horror and sci-fi from the world over in all its unrated glory! There’s the opening night screening of Troma Legend Lloyd Kaufman’s “The Feed”, the world premiere of retro thriller “Isle Of Dogs” and a host of bloodcurdling shorts to make your skin crawl.
Plaudits have to be bestowed upon Miss DENISE GOSSETT for generating such buzz for Shriekfest over the years and which now thrives as LA’s Most Successful & Entertaining Horror Film Festival! She’s the original ‘Kickstarter’ who celebrated horror at a time when festivals were few and far between back in 2001. As a Horror devotee, I feel blessed to be touched by such an influential figure in the genre and it’s with great pleasure to present this interview with the vivacious DENISE, a gorgeous visionary hugely deserving of the moniker as a FIRST LADY OF HORROR.

Q & A WITH HIGH PRIESTESS OF HORROR DENISE GOSSETT
1. Hi Denise. First off, Congrats on the the 11th Edition of Shriekfest Film Fest. What can audiences expect this time around and how has Shriekfest contributed to the horror scene over the years?
A: They can expect more of the same, awesome indie films from around the world…we have US film, films from Australia, England, France, Germany, Brazil, New Zealand, etc. I think Shriekfest has contributed by helping get the word out about indie horror and we’ve helped people get their projects made, distribution, agents, etc.
2. There’s an intriguing list of films guaranteed to make us Scream at Shriekfest 2011. What’s the selection process like and would it help if we were chummy with you (truthfully now!)?
A: Does not help to be chummy….actually many of my friends were rejected this year…we have over 40 judges and it’s a long, thought out process.
3. It’s amazing to see sci-fi as well as comedy features scheduled for our viewing pleasure. Why do u think it’s important to maintain that diversity even at an established horror festival?
A: It helps break up the gore, plus there are talented filmmakers in all genres.
4. Everyone adores you for your gregariously warm nature and for being an awesome Scream Queen. Tell us who have been your favorite actors and how have they inspired you?
A: Aww, you are very sweet, but I don’t really consider myself a scream queen…haven’t done enough horror for that. I love lots of actors, all your typical oscar winner actors, but I also love the indie actors as well. I’ve made some amazing friends over the years.
5. I also read that you’re also been anointed as an Indie Sex Symbol. How did that come about and in your opinion, what is the true meaning of Being Sexy?
A: Ah, Haren, that was appointed by you my friend! The true meaning of being sexy is: loving life, loving yourself, and doing what you love.
6. You are in the book “Hot & Horryifying: The First Ladies Of Horror” which is absolutely amazing. What does it mean to be held in admiration for being a mover and a shaker?
A: It blows me away, b/c I just feel like this person who wants to help and I can’t believe the love I get on a daily basis….it’s wonderful!
7. Tell us some of your most memorable moments throughout your career.
A: Working with Mel Gibson, he’s amazing, being a gun slinger in A Chestful of Blood, working with Julia Louis Dreyfus & Christina Applegate…both so great with comedic timing….I could go on and on.
And of course running Shriekfest…for all of it’s hard work, there has been lots of joy too.
8. You’re revered as one of the hardest working women and a genuine maven of horror. When Miss Denise Gossett is not drenched in blood on screen, what does she do for fun?
A: Awww…Haren, you have a way of making me feel so good….thank you! I have a 3 year old little girl and I enjoy playing with her, we go swimming, work in our garden, I also love hiking and spending time with my family and friends.
9. What are your thoughts on the impact of Social Media on entertainment and how has that impacted on the horror genre?
A: Wow…social media still blows me away….it’s allowing indie filmmakers to reach wider audiences and get their talents seen…it’s truly wonderful!
10. To end this interview on a chilling note, what is the one thing that truly scares you?
THE DAZZLING DOLL
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ KATY DOLLE
Here we are at the end of summer 2011 (officially 16th Sep in the US) and this tribute to Sexy Actresses In Their Bikinis would most certainly end it with a bang! Katy Dolle is one such rising starlet whose about to sizzle in the coming months. Katy will always be remembered fondly after paying me this ultimate compliment: “Everyone wants a piece of me when things are going well, but you were even interested in me when I had nothing going on”. With that most charming smile of hers, I believe Katy is due for constant adulation.
At the cusp of success, this talented cutie is slated for her breakout role, set to hit the festivals starting this Fall. It’s called “A Thousand Cuts”, written and directed by Charles Evered, starring Michael O’Keefe (he was in Michael Clayton. As Clare, a ditzy model / actress who flirts with the other main character (Michael A. Newcomer) at a party, getting into a scary situation in this indie thriller. From the pics she sent me, I can affirm that Katy is just as seductive in an evening dress as she is in a bikini…:)
Recently she was in a play called One Night Stands, a raunchy sex comedy at the Avery Schreiber Theatre in North Hollywood and is returning for another play in the NoHo Arts District. Steadily flourishing into quite the screen/theatre darling, we can’t wait to be enamored by the kissable cutie Katy Dolle.
MY SISTER THE GODDESS
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ JOHANNA GOLDSMITH
To have a generous and comely adopted sister like Johanna Goldsmith is one of the most cherished events in my life and makes me believe its all kismet. In the years we’ve known each other, our bond has grown stronger and it’s stupendous to have someone keep me on the pulse of entertainment in Texas and beyond. I’m delighted to say she’s just wrapped up a photoshoot in Cancun and as you can see from the photos (above), Johanna is immensely divine and very much an angel on earth. Make sure to catch the Nicolas Cage/Nicole Kidman thriller “Trespass” as Johanna was Nicole’s double for the duration of the film. She’s currently filming “A Paranormal Investigation” & once that’s completed a special screening is to be held soon. Additionally, her new Volks commercials are airing as well as the Gaylord commercial she shot at Paradise Springs. By the way, she always calls me her Handsome Bro so I’m reciprocating my love for her with this ardent tribute.
THE SPORTY SIZZLER
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ JASI COTTON LANIER
She’s been glorified as everything from a Troma Goddess to the ‘Most Dangerous’ Actress and Jasi Cotton Lanier continues to amaze us across horror, sci-fi and action. As a Hollywood Stunt Woman, her risk-taking on film/TV are to be honored and as an actress, she’s been lauded as a Scream Queen. With her mastery of the physicality of challenging roles as well as her passion for being in disturbing genre flicks, she’d be perfect to step into the shoes of one Tura Satana if ever “Faster,Pussycat! Kill! Kill!” was remade. A vamp in her own right, Jasi has the desirable curves and formidable athleticism to delve into even the most intensive of roles! Don’t forget to check out the clip (above) of Jasi imparting compelling tips on how to be a Stunt Performer and also this Exclusive Interview she so kindly gave.

THE COMELY SWEETHEART
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ CALI T. ROSSEN
Cali Rossen never fails to bring a smile to my face especially since she so swiftly send me her bikini pic when I submitted an industry wide actress request on Facebook recently…hehe. Hence this fetching blonde is making her presence felt right here. Yup she has a way of engaging people and her exuberant personality is instantly endearing. The teaser for her futuristic flick 3 Orbs Of Light has been released and Cali plays Tres, a protector of the 3 orbs that keep balance on the earth. Doing her best to keep them from the followers who want total domination of the world….ooh exciting stuff! Plus she’s appearing in the Boost Mobile Commercial currently making its rounds on TV. I’m pretty sure you won’t want to miss her in the erotic short “Anais: the Seduction” so help her get the film made by contributing funds big or small. Cali looks so sensually ethereal in the teaser stills with her blonde pixie hair. She has promised to show me a good time and show me the sights when i finally meet her sometime next year so…can she be any more lovable…:)
Caroline Amiguet is one beauty that luxuriantly bedazzles the garments she’s in and does likewise when she models lingerie or swim wear. This French/Swiss actress is European heavenliness at its most sublime. As deliciously vivacious as she is, akin to those gastronomic delights in her short film “Just Desserts”, she essays the bittersweet emotions of her character with such gentility. Not only does she cook up an appetizing storm as the aspiring young Chef Valentine, Caroline is tenderness personified in this poignant yet uplifting story. It’s easy to see why “Just Desserts” was selected to be screened at the recent Cannes Film Festival. Suffice to say, Caroline herself is primed for timeless affection.
SCENE STEALER AT A BIKINI CAR WASH
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DANIELLE DOETSCH
Was there any other stimulating all-girl car wash scene in a horror flick this year than the one in “Bikini Girls On Ice”…ok i just saw The House Bunny on TV with Anna Farris getting wet and wild on top of warm engines but that surely doesn’t qualify right! Newcomer Danielle Doetsch on the other hand is a standout and not just because she’s dolled up in her sensual purple two-piece. While “Bikini Girls On Ice” is a slasher bereft of the on screen gore one might expect, it’s her enigmatic chemistry with fellow actress Cindel Chartrand (the two play best friends) that showcases her credibility as a blossoming prospect. Watch Danielle in her newest short “Here Goes Nothing” as an object of affection. Inviting yet always absorbing, she’s the young lady we all should have a crush on.
SPECIAL MENTION FOR THIS SEX BOMB
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
JULIA GALASSO
Actress/Model Julia Galasso shows us she rightly belongs in any list of Summer Sirens one can dream up. Props goes to her for tagging me the pic of her in the hippie goddess pose (above), all voluptuously foxy in the light-blue bikini at a pristine beach…:) I think I need to compliment her even more since this is her special way of thanking me for the love and support that I’ve shown to her…hehe. I’ve chanced upon a horror film she was in called “The Curse Of Pirate Death” starring the busty B-Movie actress Syn Devil and porn king Ron Jeremy. Blood-soaked Gore and Gorgeous Gals work so well together. The whole movie is available for viewing on Youtube: Watch It Here Right Now! If you’re a connoisseur of beautiful blondes then Julia has a hugely enticing radiance.
As you might already now Natalie Victoria is in London for the screening for her movie “Deadheads” at this year’s Frightfest. They say love is undying and that’s how much her character Ellie means to one of the leading men (Mike played by Michael McKiddy) on this kick-ass zombie comedy…even after zombiefication, she’s still his infatuation! Oh and it’s not all puppy love as Natalie does get to rip hearts out in her second role as a vicious Zombie Bride. Get her on Season 2 of “The Walking Dead”…let’s perk up the melodrama with Miss Natalie’s winning smile as we already know she has bite…:) As sweet as nectar with a bombshell appeal, everyone should develop an addiction for Natalie in a hurry.
Why do i adore Shanley Caswell? Because she granted me an Exclusive Interview as soon as I contacted her via Facebook and her accommodating personality is to be treasured. Why do i adore Spencer Locke? Because she has an irrepressible cuteness that’s on par with Glee’s Dianna Agron. Together they may be the opposite spectra of youthful exuberance (or is it angst) yet the delectable duo shines in the slasher “Detention” that’s been called everything from visually trippy horror to a surge of teen culture and dark humor. While Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy were icons of the 80s thanks to The Breakfast Club which ranks as influential to certain scenes in “Detention”, Shanley and Spencer themselves are set to be role models for their generation.
A film that’s inspired by “Hostel”…that’s the premise of “Vile”, a shocker that has a group of people taken by force and subjected to brutal experiments Nazi style! You would know that this very blog was borne out of my fascination with all things gorno and this has two ladies who have been exceptionally active on the horror scene. At the very start of the trailer (above), one of the hardest working women in horror Maria Olsen forebodes of the terror to come in a British accent no less. She’s an extraodinary character actress able to embody a diverse number of faces horror has ever seen. Maya Hazen is a Japanese American cutie with the charisma to spice up any feature most notably in the US remake of “Shutter”.
Now here’s a busy actress that’s rapidly making a name for herself in the horror/thriller genre. Sara Paxton could certainly be the one to challenge Danielle Harris for the throne of prevalently dynamic Horror Princess…something we might never have expected from her seeing how she previously starred in much light-hearted fare such as a mermaid in Aquamarine. An intense turn as a rape victim in “The Last House On The Left” remake has lead to enthralling upcoming roles in “Shark Night 3D” and “The Innkeepers”. While the former sees her as the sexy bikini-clad eye candy with a tough mental exterior, the latter is all about her ability to illustrate charm under duress amidst the slow-burning eerieness crafted by the expert direction of Ti West.
Melissa George and her peers such as Anna Torv, Yvonne Strahovski, Rachael Taylor, etc. have been captivating our hearts for a number of years, showing both guile and exquisiteness we’ve come to covet. Add pioneering hotties such as Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts as well as a wave of new sweethearts such as Rachel Carpani (the lead of new show “Against The Wall”) and it’s clear the Aussie Starlet Invasion into Hollywood is at a high. Certainly Melissa George is quite the stunner and surely must have one of the most beautiful lips in the business! Her run of physically demanding roles such as the one in “A Lonely Place To Die” could have her lauded as an action star but she’s just as capable of showing an air of vulnerability in the quieter scenes.
SHANLEY CASWELL is the very fetching Star of groundbreaking “Detention” which transcends being just a smart teen horror film and stands on its own two feet as a genre-bending master class. If it created a huge buzz at SXSW this year as well as constantly receiving rave reviews on the internet, the intelligent slasher is expected to shine at the SIFF Film Festival 2011 as will it’s endearing female lead SHANLEY. I’m enraptured with her kindness for doing this interview at such short notice, a reflection of her appealing accessibility that’s truly charming. Already being praised as a female version of John Cusack and spoken highly of as the stirring centerpiece of “Detention”, admiration for her is rapidly growing.
In the throes of the psychedelic pace, pop culture references and riveting sci-fi cum slasher elements of “Detention”, SHANLEY is a standout as RILEY, the human touch amid the chaos. She captures the trepidation of youth, the foreboding of terror and the thrilling face offs with the movie’s villain impeccably. Even at 18, SHANLEY has shown she is adept at delivering a solidly authentic performance which could prove to be her launchpad as a Teen Idol.
Have a good read as SHANLEY lets us in on what’s it like being the female lead of a fascinating horror film, her grueling yet fun moments during the making of “Detention” and why she has the hots for Simon Baker after working with him on “The Mentalist”.
1. Hi Shanley. You’re possibly the Final Girl in “Detention”. What’s it like being the leading lady of the slasher and playing a character that’s an outsider going through teen angst?
A: At first signing on to do Detention was exhilarating. The script was so interesting and like nothing I had ever heard about that I had to do it. Riley is a character that is a lot like any normal teenage girl: pop culture oriented, embarrassed, tormented, self centered, and opinionated.
I’ve been through all of these things growing up, like most teenagers, so it was easy to relate to her “my life is ruined” mentality. Now on the note of being the leading lady; that scared the crap out of me. Especially with working with Dane Cook, Josh Hutcherson, and Joseph Kahn all people whom I highly admire.
2. Inevitable comparisons are going to be drawn between “Detention” and the “Scream” Franchise. Can you tell us how different is your heroine Riley as opposed to Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott?
A: Detention has a different feel than Scream. It’s more fun and relatable to people my age in my generation. Scream was the old generations meta comedy-horror, Detention will appeal to teenagers now-a-days. That goes for Riley’s character too.
3. There’s a scene in “Detention”, reminiscent of “The Breakfast Club” (the film that made a tremendous impact) albeit more in line with the reality of youth today. As a teenager yourself, what do you think are the movie/movies that define your generation?
A: “Superbad”, “The Hangover” and “The Social Network” are three that come to my mind. “Superbad” and “The Hangover” are ones that we see everywhere today with quotes and clothing. “The Social Network” is one that will never be forgotten because of the event that it’s about. Facebook and social networking have defined our generation.
4. You do a lot of running trying your utmost to escape from the serial killer. How physically demanding were those scenes and what were your favorite moments from the film?
A: I actually trained before we started filming for the stunt work and the dance scenes. I had to fall a lot so I was taught how to fall properly without getting hurt. The hanging scene was the hardest because I was in a harness for about 6 to 8 hours and hanging for about 4 to 5.
I had bruises from the straps and had motion sickness by wrap time. My favorite scene to film was probably the skateboarding scene. They set up this cool contraption where the skateboard was connected to the camera so we could actually skate and and do the scene. Those were fun.
5. Just read that your first major role was on Hallmark in “Mending Fences” as a gothic teen with a sarcastic side, a complete opposite to your bubbly disposition. Why do you think actresses much prefer essaying the darker roles?
A: I think there’s a lot more complexity to playing darker roles. I’ve definitely played my fair share of bubbly roles though. I would do it more often but unfortunately some people don’t think that I have a very “bubbly” face all the time. And I……I’m also very sarcastic which turns some people off.
6. There’s plenty of haters out there unlike me of course who shows the love for actresses on a daily basis…:):) How do you deal with the critics even at your tender age?
A: I’ve been very lucky so far to not have any critics. If I did I’m pretty good at taking things in thinking about them logically, then forgetting about them later.
7.From “Bones” and “The Mentalist to “The Middle”, you’ve been gracing quite a number of TV Shows. Who has been your favorite actor and why?
A: To work with? Simon Baker form The Mentalist. He is so cool and suave. He’s got a way of making everyone smile and feel special. Plus he’s got an Australian accent! How could I not be in love with him.
8. You once said the uncertainty of the acting industry gives you a thrill. What would be your dream role?
A: My dream role is always changing. At the moment I’d love to be some badass assassin or something. I’m really into stunt heavy movies right now. I feed off of adrenaline on set, the more adrenaline I have the more focused I am and the more work I get done.
9. In Tinseltown, teen actresses are regularly in demand more so this past year so what’s next for Shanley Caswell?
A: I have no idea what’s next. The thrill of this industry is why I love it. I’m not working on anything right now but next month I could be in France filming a miniseries. You have to learn to go with the flow. Right now I’m focusing on school and studying Kinesiology.
10. Tell us the one thing that nobody will ever guess about you.
A: I love rock climbing and bungee jumping.
Thanks again for the support and the awesome questions!
Not too sure whether voluptuous BRENNA ROTH has scored a date to accompany her on the red carpet for Cannes (wish i was living close to her instead of a Pacific Ocean away) but I’m pretty stoked that she has so kindly acceded to my request for this interview. After all she’s going to be pretty busy with all the grandeur of promoting her drama “The Tree Of Life”, starring alongside Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain. I admire that she tries to answer every Facebook message she gets, a measure of her magnanimity as a person. She’s definitely a standout with her brazen body art as much as her audacious sauciness.
She’s shown that she going to be a woman in vogue as after “The Tree Of Life”, BRENNA appears in Katherine Heigl’s vehicle “One For The Money” that could see her popularity soar even more. Many will come to realize she’s equally at home in big budget fare as well as low-budget exploitation shock; Always fiercely talented with a primal sensuality. She is after all a Troma Girl and we know Tromettes have an unmistakable fun and crazy streak sending us high up into B-Movie Heaven..:) Get to know her more intimately as she reveals her wet lip action with girls on film most notably pornstar Gina Lynn, why back to basics horror rocks her boat and that sometimes things can really get way more dramatic on set than the actual film itself.
1. At the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, you appear in the much anticipated drama “The Tree Of Life”. Can you tell us a little about the role and how different is it from the previous characters you play?
A: For Tree of Life I was lucky enough to work with Terrence, he is an amazing director. I am one of the neighbors of Brad and Jessica set in a middle class suburb in the mid 1950′s.
2. “The Tree Of Life” is set in the 1950s so what was was the experience like reliving those days and did you get to work alongside Brad Pitt or Sean Penn?
A: I did get to work with Pitt, not Penn. It’s weird people are all asking me, How was it to work with Pitt and Penn, and I tell them I never met Penn. “Normal” people don’t understand how filming works. ;-)
3. In the indie film “Allure”, you had a kiss with pornstar Gina Lynn in a bathroom. I’ve noticed recently that girl-on-girl scenes garner plenty of hits on the web. Why do you think this is the case and how far would you go in a lesbian scene?
A: Gina was different because her and I were friends before I did that movie. I think a lot of people would be surprised at how intelligent she is. Since I find intelligent people attractive, it wasn’t really that hard to make out with her. How far would I go? Well…there is another scene in that movie where I go much further. I NEVER get naked, I’m not that type of girl but I do go pretty far with Gina in Allure. Looking back on it now I’m wondering if my parents have seen that movie?! HAHA.
4. Brenna Roth as a performer loves to tackle strong roles that stand out so what has been your most stirring role to date?
A: Best role ever? Haven’t had it yet…I don’t really compare any role to anything else except for real life experiences. I draw from real emotion and I don’t “act”. I guess it’s hard to explain, I just do it.
5. Being the Scream Queen of The Month in Jul 2008 and an established horror actress, have you encountered any experiences that have scared the holy hell out of you?
A: I am a great scream queen because I am always scared. I know this sounds so lame but if someone walked up next to me and said boo i would scream. I hate watching horror movies. Who would ever want to be scared?! I just don’t get it. Now Talladega Nights, now that right there is best movie ever made.
6. There’s been a rise of Impressive horror movies coming out from Asia (Korea/Japan), Europe (France/Spain)and the Nordic countries(Norway/Sweden). Do you have a favorite and if you were cast in one of these overseas movies, where would be your first choice?
A: Human Centipede, most bizarre movie ever made. As far as Asian horror goes, Audition, simply a girl who kills a guy, pretty amazing. :-)
7. You once said your choice of project is dependent on the substance of the character and if there were any hot girls in it..:):) I can see you adore your fellow actresses but tell us the truth, have there been any cat fights on or off set? Oh just because I read that there was a bitch on one of your movies!
A: Cat Fights, Uh… lets just say “Killer Biker Chicks” should have had more behind the scenes cameras on it. I’ve never seen that much drama ever and I’m an actress!
8. I’ve observed plenty of tattoos on your body, which one is your favorite and do you think your immaculate collection has superseded Angelina Jolie’s body art?
A: I have bamboo burn angle wings on my back, the same method that Angie used for her tiger on her back. By far thee most painful experience of my life. So happy I did it, to experience it.
9. What’s your opinion on horror remakes? If somehow, someway “The Lost Boys” were re-imagined, would you be the first to audition and in the future, what would be your dream role?
A: Movies shouldn’t be remade. You don’t go around redoing painting or sculptures do you? Then just leave the artwork alone. It’s extremely disrespectful to remakes someone else’s film. Remake your own to be better as you see fit is fine.
Her movie star looks complete with luscious blue eyes and a drop-dead gorgeous figure clearly affirms actress/stuntwoman JASI COTTON LANIER as one of the sexiest ladies on this planet! She’s also a highly sought after pin-up model ever since her bikini days having captivated in a variety of mediums. JASI has doubled for Jennette McCurdy on “iCarly” as well as “SAW” alum Shawnee Smith in some gnarly fight scenes and is currently doing stunt work on television in popular shows “The Mentalist” and “Castle”. Unfazed by the dangers she faces on a daily basis, the commitment she shows to her craft is thrillingly stellar.
Besides her obvious sex appeal and physical allure, JASI has accumulated many a fan thanks to her gregarious nature. After I approached her for this interview, she kindly reciprocated by answering them in full even with her busy filming schedule. Here JASI gives us a taste of her exciting endeavors by telling us why she’s a whiz at fire eating and how she once “Punked” an actor by making him think she was injured for real!
1. How tough is it to be a stunt performer and has there been due recognition for the work that you do?
A: It is a very tough but rewarding job. I really love what I do.
2. What are your daily rituals to keep in shape and is there any special diet involved?
A: Well I train in kung fu, kickboxing, tai chi and gymnastics. I do lots of abs/ core, kicks, and squats. I use hand weights. I also incorporate some plyometrics to my workout.
I keep an active lifestyle, which is easy to do here in Los Angeles. I love to roller skate, hike, rock climb, hula-hoop, do yoga and always down to try a new fitness class.
I in general eat clean. My general diet in high protein, low carb/sugar but I allow for a few cheat meals unless I am dieting down for a shoot. I drink lots of water and have good supplements (Superfoods, amino acids, omega 3 fatty acids etc.) I don’t eat processed foods, smoke, or do drugs.
3. Which actresses have you doubled for and can you tell us one memorable experience?
A: I have doubled for Jennette McCurdy on iCarly, Rachel Harris, Shannon Woodward on Raising Hope, Shawnee Smith to name a few. In the movie Insanitarium, I was one of the zombies that were attacking some of the main actors; I had to jump on Jesse Metcalf’s back, get thrown around and such. At one point, one of the main actors had to slam me around in the cafeteria and push me to the ground. The actor (male) was nervous about really going for it. The director and stunt coordinator told him “ don’t hold back. She is a stuntgirl. Really throw her down.”
So we go to do a take and he really goes for it and I “sell out” (make myself look like I hit the ground very hard and am really hurt.) The director yells, “ Cut.” And whispers to me to stay down like I got hurt for real. So I lie on the ground, groaning like I am in pain. The actor started to look scared and freak out thinking he had hurt a girl. We had him going for a bit and then I popped up unharmed and the whole crew had a good laugh about it. Needless to say, the actor was relieved that he didn’t hurt me.
4. Stuntwork can be hazardous as a Taiwanese singer was badly burnt on set and Natalie Mendoza suffered a concussion during the Broadway production of Spiderman. Has there been any near misses for you?
A: I’ve been in some hairy situations but have been lucky to only have had some stitches, small burns, scraps and bruises thus far.
5. You were Scream Queen of the month in June 2002 which is amazing! What do you like best about being a horror actress?
A: I actually haven’t “ Acted “ in a horror film in years but have got to do stunts in many over the past 5 years. I love horror films. There are so many fun characters and creatures to play.
6. Having been in a substantial number of films, how has the landscape change for female performers and are there better opportunities now?
A: I’m a SAG Stuntwoman/ actress.
As far as mainstream, it is getting better but we still have a long way to go. I’d love to see more character and action roles for women, not just a token one or two. Also we still only get about 5% of the stunt jobs, so I would love to see women progress in that realm as well.
Women need to continue to up their skills as stunt performers and get into more coordinating/ 2nd unit directing positions for that to change. For acting, women have to continue to write, produce and direct more. Take the initiative.
7. I read that you were a fire performer. Will you be able to divulge a little on the secrets of fire eating?
A: There are no secrets. It is based on science. Manipulating the fire by the shape of your mouth or cutting off the air to the torch. It is very dangerous but I have been eating fire for 15 years so it is like second nature to me.
8. Thanks to your Russian roots and the fact that you were in a bikini contest, you’re one of the most alluring women in the industry but in your opinion, what really defines sexiness?
A: Confidence, I believe is what makes someone sexy. Sexiness is something that exudes from the inside out. That and being comfortable in your skin, not only physically but the root of who you are as a person.
9. What would be your dream role and which actor would you want to star with?
A: My dream role would be getting to play a lead heroine or villain in a martial arts action film. I would love to star with Michelle Yeoh. It would be dreamy to do a fight scene with her.
As far as stunts, I have always wanted to flip a car. I definitely hope to progress into car stunts as I continue my career
10. Finally, how ferocious is Jasi Cotton Lanier and can she really give us a good belting on or off camera?
A: I am not really ferocious but on camera I can be very convincingly tough. Off camera, well, lets just say I can defend myself if needed. J
I swear every time I gaze upon all-natural and voluptuous Canadian Hottie Ellen Dubin, she gets saucier by the minute. Proof of her everlasting allure can be found in the latest pics of her in dual roles as a Russian Stripper (above) and wacky mum from the witty, saucy play “Live Nude Girl”. Delve deeper into the world of Ellen Dubin as she regales her experiences starring alongside Winona Ryder, whether she’d consider sleeping with serial killers as her character did in web series “The Resolve” and why Plastic Boobies are not sexy at all….hehe.
I just recently saw a very saucy pic of you from Live Nude Girl. Can you tell us more about the play and how you wowed the crowd with your dual role as frustrated mom and Russian Stripper?
A: This play is based on a true story starring written and produced by Monica Himmel about her life as a pole dancer in Las Vegas. The play includes her background starting out in Los Angeles as an actor and holding down various jobs from a live nude art model to a tour guide at a movie studio to dancing in Las Vegas. It is a funny moving provocative piece and we all play various people that come in and out of her life. I played her frustrated psychotic stage mother and a fellow stripper named Love. The audience got a kick out of seeing the same person play such huge contrasting roles. I love seeing actors do that! These parts could not have been more different. In the second act, I went back and forth a few times between mother and stripper – The audience enjoyed seeing that switch so quickly – from uptight mom to sultry wild stripper.
Love to keep that audience on their toes, as you know! Stay tuned, you may not have seen the last of LIVE NUDE GIRL!
2. Renowned for your excellent work on cult series “LEXX” and for being a alluring yet classy Sci-Fi Siren, what has been some of your other favorite roles?
A: Thanks for that about LEXX. Giggerota the Wicked does hold a special place in my heart because it put me on the map in the sci if world.
I also loved doing HIGHLANDER: THE RAVEN. I crave learning new skills and I got to take broadsword lessons Very few women get to wield that kind of sword in tv or film. I just found it very freeing and fun. Also I was the only gal in history to have the first broad to broad broadsword fight in Highlander history.
One of my other favorite roles was starring in my Gemini nominated role as Jeri Slate in my supernatural drama series THE COLLECTOR. The show was a wonderful series that touched on many themes that we deal with in our lives.
I did the show for three seasons . I loved being a regular on a show and creating a role from the start playing a very strong passionate no holds barred journalist as well as a single mother of an autistic son. Loved the challenge of working with the little boy and different wonderful actors every week. It was one of the highlights of my career being nominated for my acting in that show. It is always great to be acknowledged by your peers in the business.
3. You once said that there are more strong parts for women in sci-fi than any other genre. If you weren’t in sci-fi productions, which other genre would most tickle your fancy and why?
A: Well, I am very lucky to have done lots of different genres. i am not just an actor in sci fi . Playing detectives and lawyers in movies of the week are also very empowering. I have played a few of those recently so that is very rewarding. Sci fi just on the whole writes kick ass parts for women.
4. With so many talents emerging from the US, Europe, Australia and Asia, how are Canadian performers such as yourself perceived in this competitive industry?
A: A great actor is a great actor no matter what country they come from. That said, Canadian actors are on the whole very well trained. A lot of us have paid our dues in the theater working very hard for very little money. So we are very disciplined actors . We are also used to doing a lot of different genres from theater to commercials to industrials to film and TV. We are known as versatile actors that can handle a wide variety of material. We are also known to be hard workers, disciplined and very appreciative of everything we have.
The little engine that could. We just keep on plugging away! And our grateful for the jobs we get!
5. Having acted alongside Winona Ryder in the drama “When Love Is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story, can you tell us about your on set experiences and what Winona is like as an actress and as a person?
A: I have to tell you that I was so thrilled to book this movie of the week because the subject matter was so profound- talk about a strong central female character played by Winona Ryder and of course to work with Winona. Also, I knew that doing a Hallmark Hall of Fame presents film was a very high profile project- the highest level of movies of the week an actor can have on their resume.
She is a very dedicated actress who was not used to the crazy schedule of doing so many scenes in one day. She has worked with Martin Scorsese and he spends a lot of time on just a small scene. We didn’t have that kind of luxury to spend the time. So she had to get used to a very heavy shooting schedule because she was carrying almost the whole movie opposite the mesmerizing Barry Pepper.
I loved working with her because she always made sure her fellow actors were alright- she was as team player and wanted to make the dialogue work in every single scene. Loved that about her. Plus she had the best skin I have ever seen! She glows! And I was thrilled she was recently nominated for a SAG award in this project. I felt very lucky to have worked with her.
6. You are an advocate of natural beauty so what’s your take on the rise of bust implants and plastic surgery in the entertainment business? Will these enhancements really help an actress advance in her career?
A: Oh Haren, I am one of the last holdouts . The only fake thing I have on me are my highlights on my head. I know a lot of actresses are doing these procedures and I can’t judge what they do to their own bodies- that is their choice. But it saddens me that in an attempt to be unique they all look the same. They don’t look younger- their skin has a weird shine, looks deformed and those platypus lips are so unsightly. Even if an actress is brilliant, you can’t watch the movie or tv show, because you are just conscious of all the plastic surgery.
Also big plastic hooters do not make you sexy. It is such a shame that actresses think that if they put these disgusting fun bags in their body they will be sexy. They will not be hotter believe me- It may help their career if they choose to do porn or play hot tub gal number three but it will not change their acting!. They are trying so hard to be womanly with all this plastic that is cancels it out. It is sad that the magazines have a lot of these gals on their covers. Most of the Sports Illustrated and Victoria’s Secret models have plastic lips, nose jobs and fake boobs. How sad that this is the image we are showing our young women. They also photo shop the hell out of pics. I just feel badly for young women that they feel that have to do this. Yes look the best YOU can be but why look like everyone else. A true actor reveals themselves not hides from themselves! Stop the madness gals. Stop running and being so insecure by masking your looks. Most actors are unique and you remember them for their unique look and style. There are so many gals who look the same on TV right now – you can’t tell one apart from the other – it is liked they are made on an assembly line. Why do you want to be an actress that is the same as everyone else? If I can reach one gal on this blog , I will be happy.
A lot of breakdowns now say please no plastic surgery especially if it is period piece. They want real looking women. Isn’t that sad that they even have to say that. I have to say when I see a tv show that is supposed to take place in ancient times and the gal takes off her top and there are big fake breasts, I hate that. It takes you right out of that period of time- it is not authentic. I could write a book on this Haren.
7. In your latest feature, the web series “The Resolve”, you play a psychologist who sleeps with a serial killer. Would you ever entertain such thoughts if a similar situation presented itself in your personal life and is love really that blind?
A: Are you kidding? I would run run run run run the other way! Mind you, you do hear of women who write serial killers in jail and marry them so yes these are sick individuals who I don’t even think know what true love is. I hope I never have to face this kind of situation! Great unique question.
8. I like to describe you as somebody who’s brimming with seductiveness but as a woman, what does it mean to be truly sexy?
A: First of all thank you!
Don’t try so hard gals- show up be you laugh have fun and listen to what other people are about. I love helping people – that is truly sexy. Not being self centered plastic and worrying about if your makeup looks good your high heels are the right designer brand pouring on the perfume pumping everybody part up and out. LESS IS MORE! My grandmother always taught me let people be aware of you not your cosmetics and not your clothes.
Yes we all like taking sexy pictures and having fun and being appreciated but gals stop trying so hard. Stop showing everything for free gals on facebook! Have grace dignity and some class that is sexy!
Sexy is just being!
If you are thinking about it too much you are not sexy
I like to think of myself as sensual and tactile. Laugh !
9. Much as i hope you’ll star in “True Blood” (you would be simply captivating) someday since you were on the TV Series “Blood Ties”, what would be your dream role and which actor/actress would you love to star with?
A: Actually Haren , TRUE BLOOD is one of my goals so you know where my head is at. I would love to be a shapeshifter on that show. I was so so sorry to see the wonderful show BLOOD TIES get cancelled because I was supposed to come back. I would love to do a LAW AND ORDER- should be on every true actor’s resume. I would love to work with Liam Neeson, Jeff Bridges, Cate Blanchettt and Meryl Streep.
I would love to do V, Fringe any of the new sci fi shows.
I also like that new AMC Zombie show- great acting – you really care about the people on that show.
Hey I am up for most new challenges Haren. I would also love to do a great Broadway play!
Bring it on!

10 QUESTIONS WITH VOLUPTUOUS HOTTIE ALEXANDRA ACKERMAN
1. You are one of the sexiest women in the world but what really defines being sexy in Alexandra Ackerman’s world?
A: Ha! So kind! I think being sexy comes from within..it comes from always knowing who you are. Ever since I was a child I knew who i was, my passions, and I have always stayed true to myself. I think when you are confident and know who you are and possess kind/good values that is truly sexy. Also, being an exotic mix hasn’t hurt my career either!
2. What made you catch the acting bug and what has been the most exciting part of your career?
A: Acting and singing have been my passions since a young age. When i was a child my grandparents took me to see live musicals – and I was hit with the acting/singing bug-so since a young age it has been in my blood. My father and mother are creative and talented so it was literally in my blood! I love live theater and singing and I also love working in film and television. I have pretty high expectations in every area of my life and I do with my career-I’d say the excitement never stops and I will let you know when i get to the “most” exciting part! I would love to be Broadway…..bet ya didn’t know that!
3. Can you tell us about your latest feature “The Brothers Cannibal” and what was it like working with Scream Queen Elissa Dowling?
A: Because I got to play the awesome character role of Maude – a gypsy woman who is sexually charged and lusts after the main character – it was very fun to play a character role for once! Elissa is awesome – we didn’t have any scenes together but we were both on set because she had a scene before my scenes. She is a really personable actress and pretty hot as well.
4. Having played pretty, seductive characters in the films “Interstate” and “My Confession”, what would your dream role be?
A: Dream role – I have never filmed a period piece – I think a period role would be fun. I do enjoy playing those seductress roles and edgy characters because even though these are parts of me I am a pretty non edgy and a non aggressive person..and def not a crazy seductress…hehe.
5. Is it tough to be in this industry and do you think women get enough recognition especially in the indie scene?
A: This industry is beyond tough. Especially because there is no security. I believe talent, skill, and dedication prevail. I love the indie scene because i want to be in character driven stimulating pieces. I like blockbuster films as well..but indie films tend to focus heavily on a few characters vs many plus action/visuals.
6. What are the fundamental differences in performing on film as opposed to modeling?
A: Modeling and acting are similar…when I shoot I try to embody a feeling or persona..I do the same with acting. With acting there is of course more research and in depth analytical work involved…but it is still emotionally based – its an essence you are trying to convey on film and in shoots. You want the audience/viewers to see and walk away with a feeling…
7. Which is your favorite all time movie and why?
A: I do not have a favorite movie – i enjoy so many, however I am a big fan of “Heavenly Creatures” with Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey. They are amazing actresses and the film was so engrossing, touching and titillating…and yes disturbing…I like films with imagination, grit, and fantasy.
8. Can you tell us more about your burgeoning singing career and the musical style you embody?
A: I have always performed in musicals and plays. I went to a performing arts high school which taught me how to balance. I had regular classes then drama and musical theater classes plus if I had a main-stage show-rehearsals. After high school i majored in theater arts in college and while in school i performed in community theater then regional theater. I was very fortunate to build my resume while in college. I am an LA native from Hollywood! So I am in LA and i have been in shows in LA, San Francisco and Nevada. I have also booked tours of musicals. I love singing and it is as much a passion for me as acting. I am unique as far as what styles i like to sing-no pop or rock for me although I do listen to pop and rock. I love to sing show tunes and jazz. When I am not in a show I fill my time with singing showcases and contests and open mikes to get that vocal release and experiment! I love singing with live musicians-its a rush.
9. How do you take the love and adoration from your fans even those that may come from distant countries?
A: Fans are the best support group around! i send my headshots all over and with gratitude. It feels great to know people appreciate your work.
