Hot Talents @ AFI Fest 2012

Sarah Hagan in “The Most Fun I’ve Ever Had with My Pants On”

 alt=

It’s easy to be in awe of indie darlings when they’re as accessible as Sarah Hagan. Give her an “A” for likable charm for this lissome talent genuinely resonates in the features she’s done, most significantly in the Sundance fave “Jess+Moss”. She enchantingly delivers once more in “The Most Fun I’ve Ever Had With My Pants On” playing an actress with issues of her own and discovers new beginnings on a road trip with her high school friend. Sarah does have a distinctive appeal that sets her apart and she even does a high-nasal voice in her latest onscreen persona. She’s a versatile actress we should all passionately follow.

Lila Salet in “Simon Killer”

 alt=

The True meaning of French Flair is how effortlessly sexy French women can be and Lila Salet is dropping with sexiness. Flattering her comes with the territory and she carries herself with sophistication on a very sweet level. Watch her in the violent, sex-drenched French-American production “Simon Killer” which promises to be a wild trip into the seedy side of Paris. Considering how photogenic Lila is with her kissable, full lips, it’s a stroke of genius in casting her in the erotic tale. Those inviting green-blue eyes of hers should yield a wave of devotees who have long desired European faces.

Stella Maeve in “Starlet”

 alt=

Don’t you think Stella Maeve has an old-world beauty that just keeps getting more and more praiseworthy every time you see her. It’s no wonder her choice of movies have invoked unforgettable memories from the 1970s. The bewitching actress of “The Runaways” and “The Manson Girls” is the perfect choice to play the feel-good women of that era which Stella emulates so well. Even in the indie film “Starlet”, she somehow manages to channel the understated hotness in her role as a pot-smoking dysfunctional roommate. Her name Stella means “A Promising Star” and that alone should augur well for her.

Vinessa Shaw in “Come Out And Play”
 alt=  alt=

One of the industry’s under-rated talents, Vinessa Shaw may not often get the accolades she deserves but her longevity should point to her widespread appeal. Just like Parkey Posey who was only recognized after a long spell, Vinessa started off in a slew of independent features. Wes Craven’s exploitation-horror film “The Hills Have Eyes” gave her prominence and it’s great to see jumping into horror once again in “Come Out To Play”. She has faced mutants before and this time it will be a deadly confrontation between her character Beth and a group of sinister children. Unconventionally sexy, Vinessa does make us swoon…:)

Indie Princess: Carrie Madariaga

 alt=  alt=

CARRIE MADARIAGA has the distinction of being the First Luiseno Native American actress featured on this blog and she’s an actress/film-maker who is synonymous with the word ‘Captivation’. Encompassing the spirit of ingenuity, she stroked the fires of initiative within her and started building a reputation for Native Americans in TV and film. Her praiseworthy directorial debut will be screeened this Friday, Sep 28 at the Native American Shorts Program and previously premiered at the LA Skins (a native American film festival) Fest to much acclaim. Starring as Coda, a scientist with a questionable reputation, her corruptible soul hidden by a veneer of righteousness. You may have also seen her on the hit show “Weeds” which was her maiden appearance on TV albeit in more light-hearted fashion. In fact, she’s tipped to dazzle in the arena of comedy.

In 2012, CARRIE wrote and directed a sitcom called “Eagle Falls” about a group of young adults living on the Rez aka Reservation which draws comparisons to “Friends”. Currently, this brunette sizzler is also shooting a reality pilot called “living native” about the daily lives of native Americans today. If her versatility on and off camera astounds you, then her lusciousness will lead to a bout of constant enthrallment. From her gorgeous skin tone and curvaceous bod to her magnetic smile, this is the time when appreciative gestures are devoted to the beautiful soul of CARRIE MADARIAGA.

Rising Starlet: Alison Sieke

 alt=  alt=

Film Festivals are where we get a glimpse of talents who should be on our radar and ALISON SIEKE has mesmerizing features that will give rise to many a crush. Her allure reminds me of another hottie with the first name Alison…Alison Lohman that is and we can all discern Ms. Sieke herself is a photogenic sweetheart with an attractively fresh sparkle. It’s her budding beauty that will allow ALISON to take on youthful roles well into her career as she has adorably exhibited on TV shows “The Middle” and “Awkward”. While she’s gone the dramatic route in the short film “Becoming” at the LA Shorts Fest as the love interest of a recent college graduate at the crossroads in his life, we are reminded of her radiance in the trailer (above). She could turn to out be one of the more intriguing faces this year!

It’s always a great feeling when an actress reads the Actress Obsession Blog as Alison has so kindly done, affirming why my support for them has paid off in a big way. It’s become a way of life honoring the dazzling women of film and television where their influence are limitless. Certainly Alison is well on her way to enchanting the masses on a spectrum of entertainment channels and a peek at the ALISON SIEKE OFFICIAL SITE reveals she’s a fixture on LA Fashion Week each season. With her impeccable good looks, solid acting background and the passion she has in polishing her craft, Alison will see plenty of offers coming her way.

ZOE takes on the role of 16-year-old Gabby, who can relate to Caroline on a number of levels. According to her, it was a wonderful experience taking part in the film as she got to perform lots of comedy. and it came from a different but very real part inside her to be able to play an intelligent young person tackling her own struggles. Add her exposure on a myriad of music videos, recently shooting for new artist Arcane Converter which will be the 4th she’s done in the past year and you have a compelling talent who will receive ardency from everyone.

2. I have worked for The Onion a couple of times, including in “Nation’s Girlfriends Reveal Economic Plan”, which was featured on The View.

3. I have a lot of live performance, especially comedy! I perform twice every week at the PIT, one of the premiere improv theatres in NYC– Wednesdays with my improv team Family Haircut, Thursdays with my musical improv team THEM. I also write and play music in my own comedy variety show, The Zoeshow, which is growing in popularity! (you can find some clips online if you google The Zoeshow Zoe Farmingdale)

4. I am co-writing a musical called “Preschool!”. We performed the 15-minute version this summer at the West Village Musical Theatre Festival and swept the awards in our category, winning Best Score, Best Lyrics, Best Book, Best Song (The Peanut Butter Song– which my character sang!), and Best Show. In addition, I won BEST ACTRESS of the entire festival for playing 4 year-old peanut butter-obsessed Marty based on audience and industry votes! We can’t wait to develop the show more and hope to produce it in 2013! I also performed in a production of Legally Blonde last month with Harrison Summer Theatre/ The White Plains Performing Arts Center.

Rising Starlet: Jessika Van

 alt=  alt=

JESSIKA VAN is one of the sweetest personalities in the industry and she harbors a stirring versatility when it comes to her craft. There’s going to be 2 instances where we’ll start falling for her. First off is her appearance at the LA Shorts Fest in the bittersweet family drama “Reunion“. As the lead Hannah, she impeccably etches on her character’s face a display of vulnerability that’s honest a result of somber events in her life. On a lighter note, she will star in Season 2 of “Awkward” as Becca who gets into a tangle with Ming Huang played by Jessica Lu. In keeping with her preference for mixing it up, JESSIKA has revealed on a recent interview, it is a fun role which will keep everyone guessing. One can deduce that this inviting girl is all for the notion that variety is the spice of life!

It’s great to see her flying the flag for Asian-American talents and she can also be beguiling as a Singer-Songwriter, Pianist and Dancer. Being Asian myself, JESSIKA would definitely belong in a special place of my heart and it’s only natural to champion her onscreen exploits, especially since she’s been amazingly likable on the independent scene. Admittedly, JESSIKA’s adorable voice adds an extra layer to her timeless appeal. All signs point to her progression into a breakout star and if her varied onscreen intensity is anything to go by, she’s going to be well-received and enjoy an enduring devotion.

Indie Princess: Emily Spalding

 alt=  alt=

One of the faces to watch at this year’s LA Shorts Fest, EMILY SPALDING is an enthralling talent viewers will keenly warm up to. The premise of her short film “The One That Got Away” starts off like this: “A quirky serial killer may have just met his match when his most captivating prisoner escapes…” which hints at Emily’s mesmerizing qualities. As the leading lady Zoey, she seemingly has a hold on her assailant so much so it is his cold heart that’s captive. With the tables turned, things will no doubt head down an interesting road and this Sunday at the screening in North Hollywood, we’ll be able to watch it all unfold.

Her attractiveness can also be seen in the commercial for Carbonite, the Online Data & Backup software company. She’s the bride in the somewhat controversial ad and judging from youtube comments, she’s stolen hearts with her stunning beauty. Not only that, from what I’ve heard she’s sociably gracious which means a sustained stretch of adoration from me and you. Catch her in the awesome “Re-Re-Routed” Acura Commercial for Marvel’s The Avengers which features the compact sport utility vehicle RDX. At the 0:18 mark, when faced with the behemoth Leviathan, she’s scrambling for her partner to U-turn the RDX in what is a hilariously notable moment destined for repeated play. Likewise, there will plenty awaiting her next emergence onscreen as she get to shown her dazzling potential.

She’s the producer and leading lady of the comedy “Hot In The Zipper” set in the 1940s regaling the love life of 3 women. Apparently the film title is the slang for horny which should get a whole lot of people excited. Just as she did fascinating audiences in the hit black comedy “Rid Of Me”, Katie tantalizes as a cosmetics counter girl with ten boyfriends and a lesbian roommate. She certainly has both a beguiling face and persona. Reading on facebook that she acknowledges my constant support for actresses is a thrill! If you’ve a fan of “Grimm”, don’t forget to check her out as a FBI Agent investigating brutal murders.

Abby Wathen in “She,Who Excels In Solitude”

 alt=

She is a regular on the Actress Obsession Blog and with sound reason for the ebullience of Abby Wathen knows no bounds be it on or off screen. In “She, Who Excels In Solitude”, Abby takes on leading lady duties as Nora Hansen, a nurse who meets Ms. Johnson, a civilian pilot during NASA’s clandestine testing of 25 female astronaut trainees. Her role is one where she’s an expectant mother of an unwanted child who as a result has her dreams to become a physician dashed coinciding with her new companion’s growing aspirations.
