Indie Queen: Susana Gibb

 alt=  alt=

SUSANA GIBB has always brought depth to the myriad of roles she’s undertaken, leaving us with a sense of wonderment each time. Her ability to develop the complexity of characters defines her as a performer. Be it as a damsel in distress or as a perky housewife, she instills a soulfulness that’s consistently riveting. Could it be those ravishing green eyes of hers that keeps viewers coming back for more? With her snagging a part in the upcoming TV Series “Dallas” (continuing the tradition of classic soaps), watch for her to rise in prominence pretty soon.

SUSANA deserves praise for her portrayal in “The Other Side Of Paradise”, a gem of the independent scene. She added much offbeat charm to the road comedy starring fellow actress Arianne Martin. By far in one of the best indie stories I’ve seen, to be in awe of SUSANA’s is alluding to the bundles of talent she displays onscreen. On a day when i received close to 200 Birthday greetings where SUSANA was one of the first to post on my facebook wall, she deserves some love in return with this feature. She has also appeared in the much vaunted film “Earthling”, the trippy tale of aliens donning human form and proves yet again how comfortable she is in a host of genres. Accolades should be just around the corner for SUSANA…:)

Quirky Saucy: Lindsay Beamish

 alt=  alt=

Adeptly producing some of the most understated yet compelling performances that’s of genuine pleasure, LINDSAY BEAMISH has always projected an offbeat magnetism. From her emo-lite, sharp blonde locks to her eclectic gamine features, she’s one who you might call an Edgy Sweetheart. Lauding underrated gems in the acting biz is paramount here and LINDSAY justifies sweet acknowledgement. I would have to say she owned the one-of-a-kind character Severin in “Shortbus”, her moody yet tender dominatrix more than compliments the uninhibited eroticness of the drama. The full-on orgy and female masturbation scenes might have been the talk of the town when “Shortbus” was first released but there’s no denying LINDSAY’s an absolute standout in the film. Brandishing her custom BDSM flogger, she doles out the pain (non-fatal of course) yet the anguish at her stagnation in life is thoroughly masked. Her intricate displays alone should by now have garnered her a worthy mention as one of the most memorable one can ever hope to see…and who will ever forget her partaking in some lesbian loving with Asian hottie Sook-Yin Lee…;)

Her upcoming feature may be titled “Forgetting The Girl” but there’s no overlooking LINDSAY, a giver of unique experiences, something she has driven home in all her roles thus far. Hearing that she’s playing an obsessive assistant of a headshot photog pushed into a jealous rage will pique the interest since she intimates maladjusted personalities with ease. She once said “My voice is relieved it got discovered” after winning the Iron Horse Literary Review’s Discovered Voices award in Non-fiction and you’ll recognize she brings stories to life on a range of mediums. Check out Lindsay’s cute impersonation of fellow author and screen cutie Miranda July in the video (above) as they discuss their erudite savviness. Indie darlings captivate the heart so much we can’t help but endorse LINDSAY BEAMISH.

LA Film Fest Hottie Special 2011: Indie Princess Suziey Block

 alt=  alt=

There may be only 3 days worth of this year’s LA Film Fest left but the event is striving to save its best for last. I’m referring to the horror flick “Entrance” that’s all the rage, even usurping bland “Green Lantern” and its cardboard villains. Guess the big boys have to make way for this indie gem; The subtle tone of its fantastic trailer(above) is mind bogglingly mysterious opting for the resonating impact of the aural kind. Behind every great film is of course a great woman and I’m referring to SUZIEY BLOCK who headlines as a hipster yearning to leave LA but finds it’s easier said than done! In SUZIEY, you have a performer who has an impeccable ability to make viewers want to invest in the person behind the story. “Entrance” sees her essaying a true-to-life character with hopes and fears that ultimately leads her down a road of paranoia she can’t extract herself out of!! I’m expecting by the end of the movie, we’ll all be blown away…:) Come July 24th you know where you should be…at the premiere of “ENTRANCE” to catch a glimpse of SUZIEY. She’s already dazzled in angelic white on opening night at the LA Film Fest and she’ll surely do so once more on the red carpet. There’s her magnetic charisma that speedily grows on you which would easily ensure a growing list of ardent fans.

As the principal in a duo of upcoming horror flicks “Where Is Amy Pressman” and “American Mummy” SUZIEY is fashioning herself as quite the enigma. The first feature is a documentary-style retelling of a road-trip gone wrong while the latter looks to reinvent the wheel when it comes to feeding our craze for Zombies. Just saw SUZIEY covered in blood from head to toe in a First Look photo of “Wonder Valley”, a take on the popular ‘Cannibals Hunting Vacationers’ sub-genre that introduces a huge twist. Sounds like SUZIEY is establishing herself as a rapidly burgeoning Scream Queen in addition to her standing as an indie and festival darling. That’s triple the reasons and three times the visual pleasure…more than enough to show our appreciation for one of the brightest starlets to hit the independent scene.

Hot Actress #487 – Leslie Garbett: Rising Starlet

Thankfully the emergence of indie horror films with females being the central focus have created a genre on their own with some calling it the rise of Feminist Horror. Exploitation hasn’t gone the way of the dinosaur but more and more, we get to revel in solid stories of the terror persuasion that for once doesn’t just bank on eye candy. Granted the women in “The Descent” were gorgeous yet they virtually drove the excellent story thereby creating a classic! Lucky McKee’s “Offspring” and its sequel “The Woman” uses its wildly, cannibalistic femme fatale to shocking effect. In the same resonating mold, “In The Pines” reminds me of “Carrie”, only this time jitters of the visceral kind take the place of telekinetic mayhem! Check out the spine-tingling trailer (above); The image of leading lady LESLIE GARBETT in the throes of a blood feast is as chilling as iconic Sissy Spacek all drenched in crimson red. The movie’s tagline says ‘Daddy’s Issues Are A Bitch’ or is it a case of cabin fever, a nightmare relived or even a murderous rampage. One thing is certain “In The Pines” has one of the coolest trailers around. Slick in its execution, the leads tread the disturbing gush of emotions convincingly with LESLIE a riveting vision in the most unsettling of ways.

If these are any indication of things to come, I’m sold and LESLIE is clearly a fantastic prospect. Being a stuntwoman as well, she’s in peak physical form and I also hereby proclaim her intense attractiveness. Check out LESLIE GARBETT ON TUMBLR in some of the sensual photo shoots she’s done….yup, she’s a stunning model too..:) In the great state of Portland, Oregon where acclaimed films “The Goonies” and “My Own Private Idaho” were shot, it’s a real satisfaction to come across gems such as the very enchanting LESLIE. Early signs indicate she shows ample promise as a strikingly, dramatic performer.

Hot Actress #461- Savanah Wiltfong: Rising Starlet

 alt=  alt=

Having the first ever actress from Alaska on my blog is a significant moment to treasure and I can’t thank SAVANAH WILTFONG enough for letting me be her fan. If Katy Perry was singing about her, then SAVANAH is most certainly a TEENAGE DREAM…:) For someone so young, she effortlessly accomplished a most magnificent debut in dramedy ‘DEAR LEMON LIMA’. I find it endearing that SAVANAH readily admits it’s the first ever feature she’s done and she’s generating just as much buzz as the film. Along with newly minted Oscar Winner Melissa Leo, multi-faceted thesp Beth Grant and the perpetually vivacious Elaine Hendrix, gifted director Suzi Yoonessi has crafted a memorable piece of storytelling and it’s a match made in heaven with the youthful cast forming the core of the multiple-award winning film. SAVANAH is a glorious delight in the lead role of Alaskan teen oddball Vanessa Lemor, urging us to reflect on the awkwardness and heartbreaks of growing up. Reminiscent of Anna Chlumsky’s “My Girl” (the coming of age) and reinventing “Revenge of the Nerds” geekdom by introducing the endearingly motley group called FUBAR (F**cked Up Beyond All Recognition), it’s an intimately sweet tale with a lot of heart. Come March 4th, make sure you show the love by catching the release of ‘DEAR LEMON LIMA’…:)

The budding star has the Emerging Talent and Golden Salmon Awards under her belt, adding credence to her massive potential as a Teen Idol in the coming years…:) Oh, I just realized the fetchingly cool Savanah has a most adorable giggle (don’t miss out on her interview above). This cutie is definitely someone you want to connect with in the online world too as she’s accommodatingly pleasant towards her growing fanbase. Fascinatingly accessible, the gorgeous cupcake that is 17-year old Savanah Wiltfong is proving to be a real gem.

Hot Actress #429- Stacy Jorgensen:Indie Princess

 alt=  alt=

On the blockbuster front we have a deluge of alien invasion films such as the much criticized ‘SKYLINE’ and the Independence Day clone ‘BATTLE: LOS ANGELES’. However it’s great to see that the indie scene has its gems too; take ‘GREY SKIES’ which has a riveting trailer (above) and a most dazzling leading lady STACY JORGENSEN. The sci-fi elements of this atmospheric thriller are teased at, cleverly feeding slivers of suspense to sustain our interest and considering it’s on small budget, ‘GREY SKIES’ is polished, filled with truly eerie moments and a soundtrack reminiscent of foreboding terror ala Halloween. This constantly reminds me that not all aliens are as adorable as E.T. or that cheeky Paul. Already making waves at numerous established film festivals and credit must be given to director Kai Blackwood and strikingly gorgeous STACY JORGENSEN who also doubles as Producer for whipping up this psychological tale.

This blonde cutie is also a hit on the web having been integral to the success of “What the F&#$ Was That?” and “The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills” parody on Youtube. Seeing how STACY advocates a strong presence for women in every form of media, she wants to see more character-driven roles rather than just settling for two-dimensional ones. And even if the subject matter is dark, STACY infuses the story with her affable, chirpy personality and it’s precisely this winsomeness that she’s highly appealing to watch. Won’t you be her follower too!
