The six short films guaranteed to contain some of the sickest segments that builds upon the Grand Guignol horror tradition, a shock-horror style first popularized in the Paris theatre. From violent offender to victim, here’s an actress who’s comfortable being both and who can forget her striptease in the ultra-gory POV-style flick “Penance”. Rapidly flourishing as an indie starlet and destined to entice and enthrall in a host of gripping thrillers in 2011, Katherine will be in high demand.
Just like how Jennifer Lawrence came to prominence after her riveting one-woman show in “Winter’s Bone”, expect Brit Marling to do likewise. The star and screenwriter of sci-fi drama “Another Earth” is stunning and intriguing in equal measures. Not one to conform to often mentioned label of newest ‘IT’ girl, Brit prefers to maintain an air of mysterious allure and and does not want success to get to her head. As we have seen in Hollywood, there’s always going to be another raved-about newcomer around the bend. But tried as she might, Tinseltown has come a-calling and she’s starring alongside heavy hitters Tim Roth, Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon in the thriller “Arbitrage”. On the verge of ascending as an indie darling with creative writing streak, it’s also her belief in being grounded in the face of fame that enthralls.
When you want a raw sensuality with healthy doses of depravity on film, Canadian Scream Queen Melantha Blackthorne is the gal to make it all happen! And boy does she love the bloodletting as this voluptuous Terror Hottie has viscerally depicted in the movies she’s done through the years. None more so that in her newest indie “Aversion” where she’s Claire, the elegant wife suddenly afflicted by demonic possession. When she’s in the teeth-baring demon form, Melantha is truly a frightening sight. Of course under all the make-up lies a blonde bombshell and Melantha should be considered as one of the Sex Symbols Of the Horror Industry. She will no doubt tempt the hell out of you and then terrify you to death…hehe. That’s the adrenaline rush she brings to the table and her scary ways are not to be missed!
Here’s an actress who’s been in highly controversial films namely the grindhouse throwback horror of “Someone’s Knocking At The Door” to the brutality of female incarceration in “Caged Lesbos A-Go-Go. Kudos to Elina Madison for pushing the limits of taste in and proving that there’s really strong characterization in the exploitation genre. She continues to provide the shocks in the revenge flick “Chop” which has been called a smart thriller with an assault on the senses ala the Korean classic “Oldboy”. From the trailer (above), there’s going to chunks of disturbing elements including the requisite torture porn that is now a staple of every horror fan’s diet. Elina is always an appetizing watch and has excelled in a variety of roles that are at times unsettling. Elina is showing why she’s one of the most stimulating actresses today.
Despite not a trailer being released yet for End Of Days tale “Abolition”, having cult actress Caroline Williams attached to the project makes it even more compelling. She’s coming on strong on her return to horror and has managed to snag some meaty roles. In “Abolition”, Caroline plays Eva, the devoted mother of a troubled man who in the grand scheme of things could either be the world’s savior or the antichrist himself. There’s plenty to ponder in this supernatural thriller as we dig deeper into faith and spirituality of our human condition. The ever alluring Caroline is famed for being the Final Girl Vanita ‘Stretch’ Brock in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel. Their brilliance is evident in their upcoming feature “American Mary” where they promise new forms of mutilations to make your skin crawl. Makes you wanna get one copy quickly too so I hope the distribution extends to Asia! Not only are the Soska Twins virtuosos of their craft, they are the nicest gals many can’t wait to meet. I only recently got in touch with Sylvia Soska through Facebook and what can I say, her humble nature is quite the attractive trait…:) That’s on top of her invitingly foxy beauty which also applies to her sister Jen Soska. Geniuses Of Gore would be an accolade I would bestow on them for giving fans some of the most wicked moments of dark-humored horror that confounds and titillates.

She had very different roles in each yet ultimately we were mesmerized every time she took to the screen. More so since she also headlined the soft-core film “Score” that involves lesbians, partner switching and even simulated sex scenes. On top of being a former Playboy Bunny and Cover Girl, she has been one of the most captivating figures in cult cinema. Kudos to the Cult Fiction Drive-In Convention for having Lynn as a Special Guest. Active in movies once more, a series of exciting projects such as “The Super” and “Torture Chamber” will have us swooning..:)
Granted 1978′s “I Spit On Your Grave” was notorious for depicting the degradation of an innocent women but underneath its violently twisted tone lies the age-old story of good triumphing over evil. The leading lady that cause a generation to shudder with her unnerving, raw performance is the legendary Camille Keaton. I saw one of her recent interviews at a horror convention and boy is she as luscious as ever in a revealing low-cut dress. We rejoice seeing winsome beauty Camille return to form in the indie thriller “Sella Turcica” after a long hiatus. A trailblazer of exploitation cinema, Camille Keaton has undeniably been pivotal in shaping the genre and it’s fitting she’s been anointed Grindhouse Goddess.
The popularity of “The Hills Have Eyes and “The Howling” have to be attributed to the dramatic performances of Dee Wallace. “The Howling” together with “An American Werewolf In London” and “Ginger Snaps” for me put werewolves on the map. Equal parts fun and frightening, the entertaining shock value from these 3 films never gets old. Watching a Hot Blonde Scream Queen such as Dee Wallace is essential and she’s proven her worth as a versatile actress throughout her illustrious career. While she’s been going the drama route playing an adulterous wife in “Bedrooms”, horror will always be in her heart as she’s set to star in indie thriller “Sebastian”. Unequivocally, she’s one accomplished entertainer.
I might have been only a child when “The Warriors” was released in 1979 but till today it is regarded as a sensation. Constantly raved about, its controversial gang themes propelled “The Warriors” to Cult Classic status and amazingly had a PS2 beat-up action adventure game created in its honor! As you know, Deborah Van Valkenburgh was a scene stealer as Mercy, the prostitute who gets cosy with Swan, the leader of The Warriors. Her supermodel good-looks were most eye-catching. It’s fantastic to see her on TV, having been on “Law & Order: LA” and “The Event”. Still as striking as ever with a most gorgeous smile, Deborah’s engaging onscreen presence will never be forgotten..:)
When an actress lists blood and horror movies as some of her passions, she immediately becomes a person of huge interest in my world. Ravishing blonde HEATH BUTLER is a genuine sweetheart yet she delves into grittier stuff that can be pretty jarring. Seeing HEATH so deftly handle the dark humor in some of her roles is always a thrill. Don’t miss her in the teaser of Discovery Channel’s docu-drama ‘WICKED ATTRACTION’ (above). She’s all cheekiness and delightful as part of the criminal couple whose affection for each other cuts deeper than any. Tapped to star in the film adaptation of the graphic novel “Something Animal”, we will most likely see HEATH drenched in blood for the best part. With literary works translated for couch potatoes left, right and center, there should be now be ample recognition for these goddess of lit! Get addicted to this cutie after watching her grindhouse-styled short “Murder In The Woods”. The evil dude looks a lot like OTIS from “THE DEVIL’S REJECTS but be prepared for violence and explicit language!
HEATH has a fantastic shriek that could have her as a Scream Queen any day of the week….:) I’m also excited by her extensive theater work that has seen her in productions such as “Pride and Prejudice” and “Littlest Mermaid”…wish i was near enough to watch her on stage. Formerly a Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleader, HEATH continues to captivate us with her abundant beauty and talents.
It’s amazing to see up and coming actresses such as SASHA STUBER tackle the brutally dark subject matter of “NUDE NUNS WITH BIG GUNS” although i wish she had more screen time. Exploitation Cinema is alive and well and the actresses fronting this grindhouse flicks are some of the most dedicated. If you’ve caught the movie already, there were some pretty unnerving scenes throughout and each cast member fleshed out their characters be it sinister or good admirably! In “NUDE NUNS WITH BIG GUNS”, it was the purest representation of good vs evil, hideous immorality trying to heinously maimed the righteous in a no holds barred ride through hell and back. If you’ve already aware of her work, you will realise SASHA STUBER is an actor of expressions. She doesn’t always require a lot of dialogue to convey the range of emotions in her roles…get her on SUNDANCE i say! It’s a joy to celebrate the diversity of performers and SASHA’S uniquely perky poise discloses her cute as a button characteristics…oh how I’m entranced by blonde honeys..:)
