4. CLARA LAGO in “The End(FIN)”

Denise Gossett is the founder and creative force of Shriekfest 2012, an event that’s become synonymous with recognizing the best in horror/sci-fi as well as everything in between. She’s given LA and the world at-large a platform to give plaudits to some of the best features in the horror genre and an avenue to marvel at the endeavors of talented performers. Denise has cemented my love for blondes especially when she’s full of charm and one of the smartest women on the planet. She started Shriekfest back in 2001 and we have her to thank for 12 years of must watch entertainment from the dark side and beyond.
Katerina Mikailenko in “The Employer”
2 Big Reasons to watch “The Employer”! Foxy rising starlet Katerina Mikailenko and the legendary Malcolm McDowell…:) What a way to kick things off on the opening night of Shriekfest 2012 with the premiere of this edge of your seat thriller. 5 executives jostled for a job that may be the death of them. Katerina takes on the role of a tough chick thrown into a room with 4 other people hoping to score a most coveted vocation. Now who wouldn’t want to be trapped with the vivacious and sexy Katerina. Can she survive the clutches of one very cunning “The Employer”(Malcolm McDowell) and be the Final Girl?
Aubrey Mozino in “Blue Hole”
With the horror short Blue Hole having been accepted into 17 film festivals this year including Shriekfest, it means we get to be captivated by the ebullient Aubrey Mozino 17 times or I dare say more! Not that we’re complaining since she appears in the Jaws-like teaser of “Blue Hole” in suspenseful fashion, eventually getting dragged way by something or someone! You may have watched her on Youtube in the episode Live In 5-Nip Slip from her LIVE IN 5 web series which has close to 270,000 Views! Aubrey is certainly attracting the right sort of attention and awakening a steadily growing fascination among viewers.
Carolyn Jania in “The Sleepover”
One can easily be entranced by the sweet smile of Carolyn Jania and this cutie could very well be dazzling festivals throughout the year. She’s appearing in the comedy horror short “The Sleepover” that tells of a town with what could be a life-changing secret. Carolyn’s part is a mystery but her vividly diverse looks (as can be seen in her reel) will be a big draw for even those who are just starting to admire this talented newcomer. According to numerous reviews, Carolyn is highly thought of as a controlled performer, constantly mesmerizing when depicting emotive aspects onscreen even at this early stage her career. Kudos!
Lauren Lakis in “House With 100 Eyes”
Intensely beautiful is what indie darling Lauren Lakis is all about and the diversity in her work is a shining example of the “soul” she often imbues in the characters from various features she’s done. Having dazzled recently in the creepy “Lovely Molly”, she appears in yet another gritty flick of snuff films and a twisted couple who conduct and records the gruesome killings. I’m talking about “House With 100 Eyes” another shocking entry in the torture porn genre. Her upcoming films such as the Lloyd Kaufman starrer “Horror House” and the very grim “American Girls” are going to be just as intriguing. To sum it up, Lauren is a beguiling prospect…:)
Some actresses are entrancing from the first moment they grace the screen and CAROLINE REDEKOPP is instantly eye-catching. Never underestimate the smile of a woman and CAROLINE wears it in such a ravishing way, we are pleasantly mesmerized. When I first saw her in this year’s Franco-Canadian thriller “Territories”, she left quite a hold on me, leaving me pretty much intrigued. Away from the torture-porn and political heaviness (Gulf War syndrome and terrorism fears) of the flick, it’s nice to have a quieter reflection on life which CAROLINE ponders over as the waitress Doris. If you were all alone in a diner (as the scene above plays out), wouldn’t you want to be greeted by such a flirtatious charmer. Discern CAROLINE’s naughty/nice appeal which this festive Month of Christmas certainly celebrates. Surely it’s observable how she bears an uncanny resemblance to one of the hottest woman ever to grace TV Land (Go on, take a guess!). Hey Mister Casting Director you seem to have missed out on a Gem! Didn’t you make out CAROLINE’s resemblance to both Lynda Carter and the legendary comic heroine that is Diana Prince? In no way will an actress obsessor (moi) resort to knocking Adrienne Palicki’s take on TV’s ill-fated Wonder Woman although CAROLINE would have certainly made a fabulous Amazonian Princess.
Ensure a visit to the CAROLINE REDEKOPP OFFICIAL SITE where you will discover she’s already prevalent on television. You may have seen her as Karen Caldone, mother of Kay Panabakar’s character Samantha in “Cyberbully”, the ABC family drama that hits a raw nerve when it comes to depicting abuse on the internet. She’s also set to headline the TV Movie “September Runs Red” as woman who is beset by the condition aquaphobia that could have a deadly impact on her life. An enthralling premise with an equally fascinating leading lady is why we’ll find the time for some CAROLINE REDEKOPP devotion has indeed arrived…:)
Many would have already found rising starlet MELISSA PAULO pretty scrumptious after catching her in the McDonalds McRibs Commercial way back in ’08. Her yummy status is set to thrive in 2011 since she’s spicing up both the television series “Femme Fatales” and MTV’s “Death Valley”. She did mesmerize at the recent Comic Con and from the photos I’ve seen, MELISSA is hands down a Living Doll. A model from Hawaii, her ethnicity comprises a bewitching mix of Japanese-Filipino plus slivers of European nationalities; let’s just say MELISSA is too bewitching not to be thoroughly captivated. She uses that very sexy quality to great effect on the episode “Girls Gone Dead” from “Femme Fatales” as a sorority girl who gains the ultimate revenge on a porn mogul, an obvious nod to sleazy Girls Gone Wild head honcho Joe Francis. MELISSA may have played the bookwormish Erida but there’s something dangerous brewing when the black-rimmed glasses and clothes come off. Clearly MELISSA is a delight from the get-go, at first as the innocent, smart girl and revealing her true colors as the seductress/killer. And just like she says in one of her scenes, we men can’t resist her and that’s so true even when she’s out of character.
All this means we have to keep our eyes peeled for this honey in the first two episodes of “Death Valley” premiering August 29th. In the meantime you can catch her in two web series, the Angels vs Demons “Soul Fire Rising” and the 4-part pilot “House Of Heather”. MELISSA’s gorgeous, come-hither brown eyes and tropical exotic look without question adds to her mystique. I must admit the coyness she displays in her roles is so fascinating. It’s always nice to feature striking personalities of our era and MELISSA has done her bit in getting us gushing over her.
Elissa Dowling, Debbie Rochon & Erica Rhodes in “The Theatre Bizzare”
As Fantasia Film Fest 2011 invades Montreal, Canada so should we get to know the actresses that will leaves us wanting more. I start off with a Trifecta Of Sizzlers who have in one way or another been instrumental in the horror genre. Elissa Dowling, Debbie Rochon and Erica Rhodes are brought together in the psychedelic anthology “The Theatre Bizzare” that has been talked up due to its freaky, thought-provoking content. Graphically violent and sexually explicit, this has all the right ingredients to deliver stomach-churning terror. The six short films guaranteed to contain some of the sickest segments that builds upon the Grand Guignol horror tradition, a shock-horror style first popularized in the Paris theatre. Here I wax lyrical on the trio of the fiendishly clever “The Theatre Bizzare”.
Elissa Dowling – One of the busiest genre actresses who has 2 films premiering at Fantasia 2011 who is also appearing in “Abolition” with the legendary Caroline Wiliams. It’s her uniquely bewitching eyes that instantly has you entranced and Elissa is thoroughly first rate as a character actress.
Debbie Rochon – What more admiring words can one bestowed on the delectable and rousing Debbie Rochon that has already been said? Revered as a Scream Queen Legend, the passion she has shown for her craft and for her legions of fans speak volumes of the influential figure she’s constantly admired for being.
Erica Rhodes - “Plague Town” may have been her debut in horror but Erica made a fantastic impression in a feisty role. Don’t let her blonde cuteness detract you from her abilities to rouse your emotions as she’s done on the web as the ditzy Sandy of Upstairs Girl fame. Desired and desirable all at the same time.
That’s 3 Wonderfully Appealing Women For The Price Of One Ticket….A Huge Turn On I say!
I hope that sultry belle Katherine Randolph is cast in “Femme Fatales” in the near future as she’s at her dangerously sexy best in the thriller “One In A Gun”. Multiple glowing reviews are coming in for her scene-stealer of a performance as Katrina Webb, the scheming seductress who takes us into dark territory as the noirish film progresses. However in the upcoming “Knifepoint”, Katherine switches it up by starring as a woman who together with her sister are brutalized by a pair of sadistic criminals. From violent offender to victim, here’s an actress who’s comfortable being both and who can forget her striptease in the ultra-gory POV-style flick “Penance”. Rapidly flourishing as an indie starlet and destined to entice and enthrall in a host of gripping thrillers in 2011, Katherine will be in high demand.
Just like how Jennifer Lawrence came to prominence after her riveting one-woman show in “Winter’s Bone”, expect Brit Marling to do likewise. The star and screenwriter of sci-fi drama “Another Earth” is stunning and intriguing in equal measures. Not one to conform to often mentioned label of newest ‘IT’ girl, Brit prefers to maintain an air of mysterious allure and and does not want success to get to her head. As we have seen in Hollywood, there’s always going to be another raved-about newcomer around the bend. But tried as she might, Tinseltown has come a-calling and she’s starring alongside heavy hitters Tim Roth, Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon in the thriller “Arbitrage”. On the verge of ascending as an indie darling with creative writing streak, it’s also her belief in being grounded in the face of fame that enthralls.
When you want a raw sensuality with healthy doses of depravity on film, Canadian Scream Queen Melantha Blackthorne is the gal to make it all happen! And boy does she love the bloodletting as this voluptuous Terror Hottie has viscerally depicted in the movies she’s done through the years. None more so that in her newest indie “Aversion” where she’s Claire, the elegant wife suddenly afflicted by demonic possession. When she’s in the teeth-baring demon form, Melantha is truly a frightening sight. Of course under all the make-up lies a blonde bombshell and Melantha should be considered as one of the Sex Symbols Of the Horror Industry. She will no doubt tempt the hell out of you and then terrify you to death…hehe. That’s the adrenaline rush she brings to the table and her scary ways are not to be missed!
Here’s an actress who’s been in highly controversial films namely the grindhouse throwback horror of “Someone’s Knocking At The Door” to the brutality of female incarceration in “Caged Lesbos A-Go-Go. Kudos to Elina Madison for pushing the limits of taste in and proving that there’s really strong characterization in the exploitation genre. She continues to provide the shocks in the revenge flick “Chop” which has been called a smart thriller with an assault on the senses ala the Korean classic “Oldboy”. From the trailer (above), there’s going to chunks of disturbing elements including the requisite torture porn that is now a staple of every horror fan’s diet. Elina is always an appetizing watch and has excelled in a variety of roles that are at times unsettling. Elina is showing why she’s one of the most stimulating actresses today.
Despite not a trailer being released yet for End Of Days tale “Abolition”, having cult actress Caroline Williams attached to the project makes it even more compelling. She’s coming on strong on her return to horror and has managed to snag some meaty roles. In “Abolition”, Caroline plays Eva, the devoted mother of a troubled man who in the grand scheme of things could either be the world’s savior or the antichrist himself. There’s plenty to ponder in this supernatural thriller as we dig deeper into faith and spirituality of our human condition. Check out the behind the scenes clip (above) as Caroline give us an insight into the mysterious nature of the movie as well as the extent of her involvement in the priceless story. The ever alluring Caroline is famed for being the Final Girl Vanita ‘Stretch’ Brock in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel. But for me she stands out for her beliefs that women are never the exploited gender in modern horror cinema.
When an actress maxes out at 5000 peeps on Facebook, majority of whom are her fans, you should get a idea of the magnitude of her popularity. Since I’m in the habit of loving beauties of the entertainment world, I have to applaud Executive Producer and Actress Raquel Brussolo on a tremendous feat. Whether you choose to believe or not that the admiration for an actress is measured by the number of friends she has on Facebook, the fact that people are clamoring to add her is incredible. I’m fortunate to have squeezed into her esteemed friends list and while she could easily create a Fan Page, it’s the personal account that Raquel imbues her personal touch. I know the NYLA Film Festival is lucky to have her especially when she’s starring in “Deception”. I believe she has the role of a husband stealer who is the catalyst for a woman’s breakdown into insanity. Wish i could get my hands on a trailer somewhere!!
She’s been in several indie features most notably Horrorween that had William Shatner, Lloyd Kaufman, Tom Savani, singer Alice Cooper and even porn legend Jenna Jameson in its star-laden cast. The searingly gorgeous Raquel has also sizzled as a model, singer as well as captivating on stage and taking the world by storm. Her multi-faceted background is as stunning as her beauty! It’s a matter of time before we are all touched by the ‘Raquel Brussolo Effect’…I know I have and she’s wonderful…:)
While some are head over heels with Dianna Agron, your other favorite “Glee” Cheerleader Heather Morris should easily command devotion from legions of fans. Is it her thrillingly saucy dance moves? Is it the impressive way she delivers one-liners as Brittany? Or could it be her sensual cat-eye look that has us rooting for Team Heather? Lo and Behold, she’s going to steal countless hearts in the short film “A Sense of Humor” as a girl who cannot laugh due to a psychical defect. Quirkiness is right up her alley and with more projects in the works, she’s turning into a festival darling.
Jennifer Bogush is the consummate writer, co-producer and leading lady of the award winning drama “Trio” which also garnered multiple award nominations for its screenplay. Renowned as a playwright and screenwriter, she has a knack for creating vivid characters and watching her be the one in “Trio” to flesh out the forlorn Jess is hauntingly touching. Her many accomplishments tellingly reveal that she can stir audiences from behind the scenes yet I hope she continues her presence on film in a big way. Isn’t Jennifer the reason why we love indie actresses so much.
If you haven’t seen her with comedian Rob Schneider in a hilariously entertaining scene before then make sure to check out the reel of sumptuous blonde Ashley Barron. She’s the naive girlfriend of Rob’s Iraqi Soldier character who gets more than she bargain for when pressed for sex….I couldn’t stop laughing at their humorous quips and boy do they have an amazing chemistry. She’s appearing in “The Collector”, the escapades of a nymphomaniac at the NYLA Film Fest and I can’t wait to see the whole thing! Isn’t it time we crave for sweetie pie Ashley Barron.
Setting the relationship-driven drama in Hollywood, a world of excess, where fame is fleeting and temptation inescapable ensures “L.A. Love Story Part 1″ ain’t no run-of-the-mill sentimentalism. Just like the harshness of “Reality Bites”, there’s a jarring tone especially when the casting director tells aspiring actress(the lovely Jeannine Kasper) to take off her top at an audition. The brunette shines in bleak roles having played the damaged daughter of Dr. Christian Troy in “Nip/Tuck” and a suicidal mom in indie hit “Paper Covers Rock”. She definitely has my undivided attention!
Aside from the re-teaming of Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen in Dylan Dog: Dead Of Night, Icelandic Honey Anita Briem would be the one very hot reason to catch the comic book adaptation. She makes me want to visit Iceland in a hurry; Have a relaxing soak in the thermal pools of Reykjavik and be in awe of the Northern Lights, attractions that have dubbed Iceland as God’s Country…;) And just as we are blessed with the heavenly beauty that is Miss Anita, we are treated to yet another moving performance from her in the romantic tale cum musical “You, Me & The Circus”.
With that unmistakable Euro Vixen charm, seductiveness has become a strong suit of Bosnian-american actress Ivana MiliÄeviÄ. She did play a Bond Girl in “Casino Royale” and I have a feeling she’s going to be all wolfish villainy in the upcoming “The Howling:Reborn”. Remember how Elisabeth Brooks was a picture of erotic evil as the werewolf pack leader Marsha Quist in the original….If Ivana is indeed cast as a sexy beast, she’ll probably tempt rabid fans of “The Howling” series. Until a trailer surfaces for her film “All American Tooles”, we’ll have sweet fantasies about her.
With such an ethereal radiance, CORA BENESH exhibits a hippie chic resplendence that grows on you. It’s as though she’s been transported from the counterculture movement of the 60s to the modern day. Seeing how I have a soft spot for the ‘Flower Power’ comeliness that Zooey Deschanel and ChloĆ« Sevigny embrace so divinely, it’s a cinch to be smitten with CORA. Certainly as a model, her portfolio emphasizes just how uniquely stunning she is on print. On the acting front, this promising lady from Portland, Oregon is a consummate professional and currently blossoming as an indie actress. Check her out in the awesome teaser (above) of the upcoming drama “City Baby”; Conjuring melancholia throughout, the theme song “The Weight She Fell Under” by Parenthetical Girls melds mellifluously highlighting the romanticism of the film wonderfully. With a cool premise, track and the beautiful serenity of leading lady CORA BENESH, “City Baby” will be an immensely mesmerizing watch. I’m amazed at how easy she gets you hooked, her striking visage instantly invigorating.
At the 2008 edition of Tribeca, she appeared in “The Auteur”, a raunchy look at the life of an eccentric Porn Director. Fast forward to 2011, she enchants yet again in the drama “Rid Of Me”. In both instances, she stars alongside fellow indie thesp Katie O’ Grady whom I first started featuring on this Tribeca Film Fest ‘Hottie Special’. Just as The Strokes thrillingly roused up Coachella and the music world (they were on youtube!!), I’m having my own piece of heaven from afar by extolling the finest actresses of the movie world. There’s so much more I want to see of the eye-catching CORA BENESH..:)
How can one not be intrigued by the creative doyenne that is ANGELICA TORN. Check out the saucy clip (above) that has been labeled Breakfast Porn taken off her indie flick ‘MINT JULEP’ which has been a work of art 15 years in the making. ANGELICA has always been known as a fantastic character actress and the scene where her privates are strategically covered by food is mouthwatering…hehe. The sexy clip conjures images of black comedy ala ‘WEEDS’ and slices of ‘AMERICAN BEAUTY’. ANGELICA plays a waitress who leaves her husband for a better life with a pre-Soprano fame James Gandolfini in a cameo….he most definitely has more hair here! Just like the potent cocktail Mint Julep, ANGELICA is a powerhouse on film as well as the myriad of plays she’s impressed in! And her wonderful talents doesn’t end there; she also owns the company Torn Page Productions which recently released the multiple-award winning ‘LUCKY DAYS’ and you as you can guess, ANGELICA is the writer, director, producer and star of this emotionally-layered indie. The ANGELICA TORN OFFICIAL SITE is a great source for everyone who’s enchanted with what she’s accomplished.
I adore that even though she’s Hollywood Royalty (her father is the legendary thespian Rip Torn) and has been praised countless times for her ethereal beauty as well as her thought-provoking work, she’s veraciously modest. Fluently gliding from one persona to another on stage and film, ANGELICA’s elegant, chameleonic finesse is phenomenal. An inspirational, down-to-earth classic beauty whose living her dream and leaving us breathless with a sumptuous aftertaste…:)
