Sizzling Cutie: Buffy Charlet

It’s awesome to highlight actresses doing the film festival rounds and the charismatic BUFFY CHARLET is in line for recognition from fans. Due to the fast-paced fluidity of SXSW 2013, I couldn’t get insider news from BUFFY in time for this article but having connected with her is already amazing in itself. After all, she’s appearing in the riveting thriller “Holy Ghost People” as Liz, the woman who becomes the enigma of the story as the world of Snake-Handlers of Southern Appalachia and those from the outside converge. Having vanished mysteriously, her sister Charlotte decides to infiltrate the religious commune only to discover a darkness she would never see coming. BUFFY re-unites once more with Joe Egender, her co-star from indie comedy “Lurking in Suburbia” and moves into a different territory as opposed to her comedic parts in the past. At this year’s SXSW, we’ve seen Jane Levy of “Suburgatory” fame who moved effortlessly into horror with the R-rated “Evil Dead” and the genre bending continues with the talented BUFFY.

“The Buffies” is her successful web series with fellow actress Caroline “Buffy” Rich who has sizzled up this blog before. Their “Cum-N-Go” skit on the wonders of having sperm readily available without the need for men is hilarious so check the video out (above). BUFFY is endearingly good when it comes to the funnier side of life and with her venturing into contrasting roles, this could be the time for her big break.

Quirky Saucy: Edi Patterson

If you’re into improv comedy, EDI PATTERSON is right up there with the best talents to have brought off-the-cuff slapstick on stage and then onto Film and TV. A prominent member of The Groundlings, she’s part of the acclaimed troupe that have entertained countless people and borne some of the biggest names in entertainment. Newly minted Emmy Winner Melissa McCarthy, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig are some of its famous alum and EDI has every chance of replicating their successes. Sometimes a way to a man or woman’s heart is humor and perhaps a little tease of the boobs as EDI so cleverly blends into the Scarlett Johansson parody (above)…wonder if EDI will do a skit that involves some really ‘Dirty’ pictures since Miss Johansson is currently fodder for gossip…hehe. This Texas Cutie is clearly well-endowed and need I remind you not just on a physical level. Having become an accomplished playwright, writing sketches and performing them, her brains are a goldmine with which she concocts comedic gems.

Recently seen in “Weeds” as a smarmy artist or so we thought, she does have an intrinsic comic charm in those Vintage Cat Eye Glasses. Her two-person show “Mitch and Edi Making Love” as well as her musical parody of “The Fellowship of the Rings” has fans in raptures over the rapid wit of hers. She has this to say about the wonders of improvisation: “It goes to some place that nobody would ever expect”. There lies the everlasting hipness of EDI PATTERSON; It’s clear she has the ability to spontaneously cook up rib-tickling moments to treasure.

Rising Starlet: Dana DeLorenzo

To remember singer extraodinaire Amy Winehouse, it is poignantly essential to feature attractive DANA DELORENZO who cites Amy as being a heavy influence on her as an entertainer. DANA is of course the lead vocalist for tribute band HOUSE OF WINEHOUSE who stayed true to the spirit of Amy, the recently deceased artist with the signature beehive do and sultry bluesy vocals. In DANA’s words, Amy enriched her life and those of many others worldwide. By not conforming to the forced machination into a pop idol purported so frequently by the music industry, Amy charted her way to success as a one-of-a-kind performer. She was unique in molding her own image and for all her flaws, I rather remember Amy for indelibly changing the music landscape on her own terms. What DANA and her tribute band are doing is amazing, honoring the life of Amy Winehouse as a stirringly talented musician and DANA can certainly rock it! By the way, DANA is a whiz at Celebrity Impressions delightfully impersonating Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and even the ditzy Kim Kardashian….she had me tickled pink! Don’t miss the Chelsea Handler and Sarah Silverman caustic war of words skit with Liza Minnelli putting in her hilarious two cents worth in the clip (above). She captured the essence of each one with excellence. HEY! Give this girl her very own comedy sketch show like now!

DANA is also an accomplished stage and indie actress, most recently seen alongside horror icon Robert Englund in “The Mole Man Of Belmont Avenue” which had its share of laughs and scares. Her character Stoner Molly involved being dressed as a creepy clown and looking all psycho! Adept at different incarnations onscreen as well as multiple accents, this beauty with the Italian heritage has played everything from a Latina sidekick to a scandalous stripper. She’s born to perform and while DANA is known for being strikingly remarkable in her posh, often cussing Amy Winehouse impersonation, she stands on her own merit as a dramatic actress.
