Come May 19th 2011, Seattle International Film Festival will be the epicenter of visual pleasure that will be colorfully stimulating throughout. Certainly we have to pay tribute to the actresses who in varying capacities are ensuring we fans have a mind-blowing good time. Not since “Fright Night” have Vampires been this audaciously seductive and the leading ladies of “We Are The Night” or “Wir sind die Nacht” (in German) should be commended for bringing Sexy Back! JENNIFER ULRICH for one is a sensation as Charlotte, a silent era movie star with looks to kill and a ruthless appetite for blood. JENNIFER has a priceless scene in “We Are The Night” where she pokers her eye with a lighted cigarette…there’s none of the emo posturing or existential thoughts of being the undead….It’s as true to the immoral vampiric nature as you can get amidst a very addictive Eurodance soundscape complete with throbbing beats. Being a Vamp is all about excess and I love how JENNIFER portrays her sultry Charlotte character with both bloodlust abandon and dignified poise. It’s terrific to see a strong female-fronted movie with women driving the story and doing the majority of the onscreen kills. I urge you to watch German Sirens JENNIFER ULRICH, Karoline Herfurth, Nina Hoss & Anna Fischer in one of the most gorily fun movies of the year! I’m half expecting a Hollywood remake to be churned out pretty soon.

It really doesn’t matter where you live in the world or what language you’re conversant with, JENNIFER like so many of her European peers have brilliantly intimated the enthralling cinematic experience we are so fond of. She’s been lauded once before for her intense performance as a teen who rebels against the ideals of a school cult in “The Wave”. Good-natured and with a heady desirability, it would be fascinating to see JENNIFER crossover to the American Market and achieve the kind of popularity relished by German talents say for example Franka Potente. JENNIFER brings a compelling freshness on the film scene and well on her way to success.

Hot Actress #482 – Denise Gossett: Indie Horror Queen

We better be ready to shout her praises and make the rafters ring as DENISE GOSSETT is the very soul of the annual SHRIEKFEST. Borne out of frustration by the lack of venues to screen her very first film “Chain Of Souls”, she founded SHRIEKFEST, gained immediate success and created a phenomenon that’s been pivotal in shaping the horror genre. Now approaching it’s 11th year, the international film festival receives submissions from all over the world and continues to give accolades to the creative minds of horror and sci-fi. Call for entries is now open for the 2011 Edition at the SHRIEKFEST OFFICIAL SITE. DENISE and I share 2 things in common, we were both freaked out by “A Nightmare On Elm Street” and more significantly, we love our Women In Horror..:) I’m a rookie compared to DENISE who for me is a standout out on 3 fronts namely:

1.Being a proponent of ‘Smart Horror’ and challenging the conventional.
2.Advocating Women In Horror whether they be actresses, film-makers or writers.
3.Boosting the Horror World with her outstanding contributions behind the scenes and onscreen.

Even though she’s a mainstay of the horror scene, DENISE has appeared in popular shows such as “Zoey 101″, “Samantha Who?” and “The New Adventures Of Old Christine”. She has so kindly advanced news that she’s starring in the episode Crash and Born from Season 3 of “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant” on March 28th. Great timing to feature such a legendary hottie today.

An inspirational figure for many through the years, it’s invaluable that she takes time off from her busy schedule of filming on set/preparing for events to interact with overseas fans like me. Adorably enchanting in beauty and wonderfully pleasant in personality, she’s radiant on film too as evident by her appearance alongside cult favs Reggie Bannister and Doug Jones in the thriller “Carnies” about a 30′s sideshow carnival turning deadly. I can’t wait to do an exclusive interview with her but I’m saving that special moment for a future spot on my blog to fan our flames of fascination for DENISE GOSSETT, a true superstar in the eyes of horror devotees everywhere!

Hot Actress #458 – Camille Mana: Rising Starlet

FHM Cover Girl, Award-winning film-maker/producer and already tipped as one of Ten Promising Asian-Americans To Watch, CAMILLE MAMA enthralls with relative ease. When she acknowledged in jest her openness for threesomes from an interview she did (above), she probably made the day for many a guy…hehe. Sassy, funny and blessed with a wholesome yet foxy sex appeal, this Filipino-Chinese beauty has even kissed “Mr MegaTwitter” star Ashton Kutcher in just her bra and panties albeit in a scene from the comedy ‘SMART PEOPLE’. Even though she’s well known as the sprightly Lisa Sanchez from TV Series ‘ONE TO ONE’, CAMILLE has done several independent features most notably the Mean Girls meets Ninja High School comedy ‘THE SAMURAI OF STRONGVILLE, OHIO’ which had its run during CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2010. Add an appearance in star-studded Sundance fave ‘HIGH SCHOOL’ plus a starring role alongside the face of “The Social Network” Jesse Eisenberg in the upcoming ‘THE AMBASSADORS’ and you can see why she’s primed for stardom. It’s been a tough road for her so let’s face facts by not sugarcoating them; Asian faces are the minority in this industry but her exuberant passion and strong belief has garnered a semblance of deserved success.

You may be surprise to know even though CAMILLE’s a social butterfly, she doesn’t necessarily subscribe to the trappings and allure of Hollywood themed parties, preferring to be seen in the more artistic fringes of Tinseltown. With her star on the up and up and fame knocking on her doorstep, that might prove easier said than done but you have to adore her groundedness in the thick of all the media hooplah. This bubbly girl is creating a sweet commotion and believe you me, she is that lovable..:)

Hot Actress #400 – Heather Matarazzo:Indie Queen

 alt=  alt=

Heather Matarazzo is an entertainer who punctuates exclamation points throughout her established career. Her breakout role came in Welcome To The Dollhouse and ever so often she’s fronted mainstream hits such as ‘THE PRINCESS DIARIES’ and its sequel in the midst of indies such as ‘SAVED’ and the upcoming ‘MANGUS’ (she’s a newly minted blonde in this movie). The “Road Trip Meets Jesus Christ Spectacular” premise is rather interesting with HEATHER cast as a character called Jessica Simpson!!. In addition, it was recently announced that Heather will star in ‘MANSON GIRLS’ as part of the harem of notorious cult leader Charles Manson, I’m expecting yet another strong performance from her. I was also thrilled seeing her in ‘HOSTEL 2′ a few years back as I’m a big horror buff even though she was horribly massacred in that torture porn. Thus, it’s an honor to have her as the 400th featured actress on my blog today.

Her Independent Spirit Award win at the age of 12 justified her infallible talents at an early stage of her career and she has since enjoyed commercial as well as critical success in film and on television. Openly a lesbian actress, her activism in areas such as gay/lesbian rights and the recent Love Is Louder movement which deals with suicide is inspirational. Having struggled with sexual identity issues throughout her life, it’s great to see her showing support for those important causes. With Sundance fever in the air, it’s time to pay homage to the women in independent cinema starting with the venerated HEATHER MATARAZZO.
