Our passion for ladies from the British Isles is well-documented and the enthrallingly beautiful NICOLA POSENER has us thoroughly captivated. Seeing how she shone in the darkly violent “Axed” even though many reviewers criticized for the plot holes, she’s on the fast road to success. As Megan, the daughter of a man who goes psycho on his family after losing his job, she gave a realistic elucidation of a rebellious daughter on the cusp of sexuality. NICOLA is a reactive actress, bringing verve to every role she’s taken on and she proved intriguingly wonderful in “Axed”. Just like Gemma Atherton, Tamsin Egerton and Juno Temple, NICOLA POSENER is possibly the next English Rose to light up Hollywood. While she is returning to the horror genre once more in the supernatural flick “Crypt”, British audiences would have seen her on TV in “House Of Anubis” and “Casualty”. On set, her easy-going nature has set well with directors and cast-mates who have lauded her cordiality. Doesn’t everyone wish they had someone like NICOLA brightening up the day at the office…:)
All the more reason to drop by the NICOLA POSENER OFFICIAL SITE where there’s plenty of information on her current projects. Imagine my surprise when she told me she would happily participate on my blog, once again affirming the graciousness actresses do have. Short of sounding like a broken record, many do often ask why my praises for them is ceaseless. It’s because again and again, they have pleasantly amaze me with their responsive kindness. NICOLA certainly treasures her fans and with her track record of being blissfully watchable, she’s plausibly a starlet on the rise.
Elissa Dowling, Debbie Rochon & Erica Rhodes in “The Theatre Bizzare”
As Fantasia Film Fest 2011 invades Montreal, Canada so should we get to know the actresses that will leaves us wanting more. I start off with a Trifecta Of Sizzlers who have in one way or another been instrumental in the horror genre. Elissa Dowling, Debbie Rochon and Erica Rhodes are brought together in the psychedelic anthology “The Theatre Bizzare” that has been talked up due to its freaky, thought-provoking content. Graphically violent and sexually explicit, this has all the right ingredients to deliver stomach-churning terror. The six short films guaranteed to contain some of the sickest segments that builds upon the Grand Guignol horror tradition, a shock-horror style first popularized in the Paris theatre. Here I wax lyrical on the trio of the fiendishly clever “The Theatre Bizzare”.
Elissa Dowling – One of the busiest genre actresses who has 2 films premiering at Fantasia 2011 who is also appearing in “Abolition” with the legendary Caroline Wiliams. It’s her uniquely bewitching eyes that instantly has you entranced and Elissa is thoroughly first rate as a character actress.
Debbie Rochon – What more admiring words can one bestowed on the delectable and rousing Debbie Rochon that has already been said? Revered as a Scream Queen Legend, the passion she has shown for her craft and for her legions of fans speak volumes of the influential figure she’s constantly admired for being.
Erica Rhodes - “Plague Town” may have been her debut in horror but Erica made a fantastic impression in a feisty role. Don’t let her blonde cuteness detract you from her abilities to rouse your emotions as she’s done on the web as the ditzy Sandy of Upstairs Girl fame. Desired and desirable all at the same time.
That’s 3 Wonderfully Appealing Women For The Price Of One Ticket….A Huge Turn On I say!
Katherine Randolph in “Knifepoint”
I hope that sultry belle Katherine Randolph is cast in “Femme Fatales” in the near future as she’s at her dangerously sexy best in the thriller “One In A Gun”. Multiple glowing reviews are coming in for her scene-stealer of a performance as Katrina Webb, the scheming seductress who takes us into dark territory as the noirish film progresses. However in the upcoming “Knifepoint”, Katherine switches it up by starring as a woman who together with her sister are brutalized by a pair of sadistic criminals. From violent offender to victim, here’s an actress who’s comfortable being both and who can forget her striptease in the ultra-gory POV-style flick “Penance”. Rapidly flourishing as an indie starlet and destined to entice and enthrall in a host of gripping thrillers in 2011, Katherine will be in high demand.
BRIT MARLING in “Another Earth”
Just like how Jennifer Lawrence came to prominence after her riveting one-woman show in “Winter’s Bone”, expect Brit Marling to do likewise. The star and screenwriter of sci-fi drama “Another Earth” is stunning and intriguing in equal measures. Not one to conform to often mentioned label of newest ‘IT’ girl, Brit prefers to maintain an air of mysterious allure and and does not want success to get to her head. As we have seen in Hollywood, there’s always going to be another raved-about newcomer around the bend. But tried as she might, Tinseltown has come a-calling and she’s starring alongside heavy hitters Tim Roth, Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon in the thriller “Arbitrage”. On the verge of ascending as an indie darling with creative writing streak, it’s also her belief in being grounded in the face of fame that enthralls.
MELANTHA BLACKTHORNE in “Aversion”
When you want a raw sensuality with healthy doses of depravity on film, Canadian Scream Queen Melantha Blackthorne is the gal to make it all happen! And boy does she love the bloodletting as this voluptuous Terror Hottie has viscerally depicted in the movies she’s done through the years. None more so that in her newest indie “Aversion” where she’s Claire, the elegant wife suddenly afflicted by demonic possession. When she’s in the teeth-baring demon form, Melantha is truly a frightening sight. Of course under all the make-up lies a blonde bombshell and Melantha should be considered as one of the Sex Symbols Of the Horror Industry. She will no doubt tempt the hell out of you and then terrify you to death…hehe. That’s the adrenaline rush she brings to the table and her scary ways are not to be missed!
ELINA MADISON in “Chop”
Here’s an actress who’s been in highly controversial films namely the grindhouse throwback horror of “Someone’s Knocking At The Door” to the brutality of female incarceration in “Caged Lesbos A-Go-Go. Kudos to Elina Madison for pushing the limits of taste in and proving that there’s really strong characterization in the exploitation genre. She continues to provide the shocks in the revenge flick “Chop” which has been called a smart thriller with an assault on the senses ala the Korean classic “Oldboy”. From the trailer (above), there’s going to chunks of disturbing elements including the requisite torture porn that is now a staple of every horror fan’s diet. Elina is always an appetizing watch and has excelled in a variety of roles that are at times unsettling. Elina is showing why she’s one of the most stimulating actresses today.
CAROLINE WILLIAMS in “ABOLITION”
Despite not a trailer being released yet for End Of Days tale “Abolition”, having cult actress Caroline Williams attached to the project makes it even more compelling. She’s coming on strong on her return to horror and has managed to snag some meaty roles. In “Abolition”, Caroline plays Eva, the devoted mother of a troubled man who in the grand scheme of things could either be the world’s savior or the antichrist himself. There’s plenty to ponder in this supernatural thriller as we dig deeper into faith and spirituality of our human condition. Check out the behind the scenes clip (above) as Caroline give us an insight into the mysterious nature of the movie as well as the extent of her involvement in the priceless story. The ever alluring Caroline is famed for being the Final Girl Vanita ‘Stretch’ Brock in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel. But for me she stands out for her beliefs that women are never the exploited gender in modern horror cinema.
HEATHER LAGENKAMP & AMANDA WYSS
As an impressionable young boy watching “A Nightmare On Elm Street” for the first time, you latch on to the first images that came your way. They were of blonde teen Amanda Wyss as Tina Gray in her nightdress being stalked by the razor-fingers dream master Freddy Krueger. That ignited my fascination with blondes ever since! Then the focus shifts to cutie Heather Lagenkamp as Nancy Thompson and the memorable bath tub scene that sees Freddy’s sharpened gloves ominously head towards her. That’s when the desire in me to save adorable girls started…hehe. So it’s sensational to see a reunion of this inspirational duo at Days Of The Dead 2011. I won’t be the first nor the last in exalting the influence Heather and Amanda has given the horror world and they remain such endearingly awe-inspiring figures.
ASHLEY C. WILLIAMS
Since bursting onto the scene as one-third of “The Human Centipede”, Ashley C. Williams has enjoyed a meteoric rise that’s seen her attain cult-like devotion. She may have been the middle part of that monstrosity but her cringe-worthy performance caught the attention of a worldwide audience and launched her to epic heights. Now headlining the survival horror feature “Empty”, Ashley gets into the skin of another disturbing role set during a gas crisis. Ashley stars as Piper who faces the moment of truth in a dire situation; Will she survive in an unknown landscape under severe duress? Raved for her singing in Spellbound- A Musical Adventure, her dynamism extends beyond the screen. It’s no wonder we are hypnotized by Ashley’s intense beauty, rousing aura and down-to-earth nature.
Camille Keaton probably has an endless line of admirers seeing how she is revered as a horror fan’s wet dream and will remain an object of affection for years to come. A popular cult figure, she continues to enchant us with her vibrant personality and irrefutably a sought after actress at numerous horror conventions. Camille returns to cinema in “Sella Turcica” as a mom whose zombiefied son returns from the war right before the suspense and gore begins. Watch her in the clip (above) as the mysterious allure Camille has in abundance is why we endlessly loving her work. In addition to that role, she’s in the upcoming thriller “The Butterfly Room”. Camille left an indelible mark in exploitation horror with “I Spit On Your Grave” and it’s her passion for entertaining that has made her an icon.
With the leading lady role of Elizabeth in “Frankenstein: Day Of The Beast”, the re-imagining of the beloved monster classic, fast rising indie horror starlet Michelle Shields is set to be the intriguing girl to watch. Gone are the days of damsels in distress, as more and more we see stronger interpretations onscreen highlighting the emergence of a meatier, more dramatic female presence in horror. Michelle is easily one of the sexiest emerging talents in the genre and she’s not just dazzling the independent scene, having been a core member of Comic Book Divas as a series of colorful characters. Here’s a versatile actress who is not restricting herself, dabbling in sci-fi as well as comedy in her upcoming features. Fans can look forward to more delightful surprises from this busty brunette.
GINGER LYNN ALLEN
Yup she’s a pornstar who took a hiatus but returned to reinvent herself as a B-movie actress as well as sizzling the MILF genre which has taken the adult industry by storm. Best remembered in the dream sequence for vigorously humping Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig) in violent serial killer thriller “The Devils Rejects”, Ginger Lynn Allen is the epitome of cougar-liciousness. Metallica even featured her in their video “Turn the Page” where she portrayed an aging stripper struggling to raise her child. The invasion of adult film stars into the mainstream is now commonplace with degrees of success. She was notoriously known as the one-time paramour of ‘Mr Tiger Blood’ Charlie Sheen but as you can see, Ginger is still doing her saucy thing.
Frightmare has indeed invaded Texas and although it’s Canadian visionary, Jason Eisner, the director of “Hobo With A Shotgun” taking center stage, featuring the film’s leading lady MOLLY DUNSWORTH right here is just as fascinating. I was rooting for her prostitute character Abby throughout the violent allegory of hopelessness that is “Hobo With A Shotgun” where evil reign supreme until one homeless vigilante had the balls to fight back. It’s great to see two redeeming figures played by Rutger Hauer (Hobo) and MOLLY DUNSWORTH (Abby) in the face of all the brutality by way of ice skates, shotgun and baseball bats, carnage not limited to exploding heads! Only now do I know that sick psychos look strangely like Tom Cruise on meth! Although seeing the dazzling Molly posing with those armored heavies of The Plague (above) has me hoping for a sequel…:) Molly is super appealing so you can understand why any man would want to be her knight in shining armor or in this case a vagrant with a serious case of pump gun madness! From almost being killed several times to having her hand mutilated to the bone and even in the quieter, reflective moments, Molly is a sight to behold and when it comes to the final act, vigorously empowering her transformation into an action heroine.
Thanks to the rise of homages to exploitation flicks that reached notoriety with Death Proof/Planet Terror, we get to discover future stars and Molly has already made her mark in only her first starring role…WOW! On TV, Fans of the supernatural series “Haven” will know that she was Vickie, a young lady with a gift or should I say ‘Curse’ to maim people with her drawings in the episode ‘Sketchy’. Fervor and adoration will pour in for MOLLY DUNSWORTH as we become acquainted with this charming Canadian starlet. London, Ontario residents will get to see her in the flesh at the horror/exploitation festival Shock Stock.
Melantha Blackthorne in “Prison Of The Pyschotic Damned”
As Scream gets a reboot this week in its fourth incarnation, what better than to highlight talented ladies who epitomize the fine art of being a Scream Queen. First off is Melantha Blackthorne, the voluptuous doyenne of all things dark! Independent cinema’s Sex Kitten is all about keeping the audience utterly riveted as Melantha sets out to do in her new films “Aversion” and “Fable“. Bustylicious and Bold, her sharp sometimes twisted wit and thrill factor ensures she’s one enigmatic leading lady of horror.
Felissa Rose in “The Perfect House”
Even though she was slightly apprehensive at first, Felissa was born to do horror and after gaining prominence with “Sleepaway Camp”, she’s become quite the cult figure. 2011 is looking to be the Year Of Felissa Rose with starring roles in “Breath Of Hate“, the sadistic thriller “The Perfect House” and even “Sleepaway Camp Reunion”, Part 3 of the campy horror classic, returning as psycho bitch Angela Baker! In character, her ability to essay multiple personalities with ease makes her top-quality performer.
Debbie Rochon in “Santa Claws”
A Firm Favorite of fans around the world, Debbie Rochon continues to bewitch till this day and there’s no sign of that subsiding ever! It’s astounding to see her gracing numerous Films, Magazine Covers and of course those indelible Scream Queen Lists. I’m sure many are in awe of her presence and how valuable her contributions to horror have been. Debbie deserves to be idolized as it takes a very special woman to be cited as an influential indie horror icon by filmmakers, actresses and admirers.
Seri De Young in “Laid To Rest”
Seri De Young is a terrific screamer as she asserted so potently in the gripping slasher “Laid To Rest”. It’s unfortunate that she’s not returning in the sequel “Chromeskull” but nonetheless, the attractive blonde is a serious head turner. Cute as a button with an unflappable appeal, falling for her would be as easy as 1-2-3. The independent scene has its share of starlets who are more than capable of entertaining viewers and Seri is most assuredly heading in the right direction.
Sarah Brendecke & Michelle Tomlinson in “Brain Dead”
Two of the most tempting ladies headlining one grossly violent Zombie flick is a match made in heaven! Revel in the performances of Sarah Brendecke and Michelle Tomlinson who captivate throughout the jaw-dropping “Brain Dead”. Sarah is a Sex Symbol whose versatility has seen her delight on film as well as keeping us enthused over her pics as a MAXIM Magazine Siren. Michelle not only excels as a Terror Hottie, she’s wonderfully adapt at playing diverse characters, adding her own fascinating twist.
Scout Taylor Compton in “Halloween/Halloween 2″ and Kristina Klebe in “Halloween”
Since taking over the mantle of Jamie Lee Curtis in the updated Halloween franchise, Scout Taylor-Compton has become the ‘IT’ Girl in the Horror Stakes. Together with Danielle Harris, the duo have so capably symbolize the strong yet emotionally fractured version of the eponymous Final Girl! Kristina Klebe as you know caught the eye in “Halloween” as the promiscuous Lynda. As sumptuous as Kristina is, her charming traits have such a hold on you that ensures she’s due a huge following.
It’s been a long time coming for a tough as nails blonde with a devious edge to blow our minds onscreen. In 2009, we had the gratification of watching brunettes America Olivo, Julia Voth and redhead Erin Cummings Bitch Slap each other endlessly. The advent of NINA BERGMAN as the spicy villainess of upcoming indie “The Wayshower” represents the return to form of Femme Fatales who deliver smackdowns courtesy of their fists. With a surreal Donnie Darko-like vibe, a much coveted ancient book of power and the hero of the hour by the name of JESUS, it’s the age-old theme of Good Vs Evil we always get a kick out of. Sensually feral, NINA is delightfully wicked as the Violent Vixen alongside perennial creepy dude Peter Stormare and the duo make for an insidious pair indeed. Aside from acting, this Danish looker’s accomplishments extends to the modeling and singing planes too. She’s rivetingly loud to the senses as lead singer of alternative rock band Dead Rose Beauty and I was amazed to find out that her manager is the legendary Paul Anka! I have a feeling by virtue of those lingerie shots (above), it’s highly likely she’s a Sex Symbol in her native Denmark as well as in the minds of her hardcore fans. Can’t stop staring, there’s tons more at the NINA BERGMAN OFFICIAL SITE.
Her exhaustive collection of videos and reels accentuate the caliber of work she’s putting out for our enjoyment. Endowed with an abundance of sauciness and a sultry voice that can’t be manufactured even by those pesky auto tuners, NINA is a must listen, much watch entertainer. With the sheer volume of “friends” in the thousands (I reckon they’re more like devotees) on her Facebook Page, she’s becoming quite the obsession…:)
When an actress lists blood and horror movies as some of her passions, she immediately becomes a person of huge interest in my world. Ravishing blonde HEATH BUTLER is a genuine sweetheart yet she delves into grittier stuff that can be pretty jarring. Seeing HEATH so deftly handle the dark humor in some of her roles is always a thrill. Don’t miss her in the teaser of Discovery Channel’s docu-drama ‘WICKED ATTRACTION’ (above). She’s all cheekiness and delightful as part of the criminal couple whose affection for each other cuts deeper than any. Tapped to star in the film adaptation of the graphic novel “Something Animal”, we will most likely see HEATH drenched in blood for the best part. With literary works translated for couch potatoes left, right and center, there should be now be ample recognition for these goddess of lit! Get addicted to this cutie after watching her grindhouse-styled short “Murder In The Woods”. The evil dude looks a lot like OTIS from “THE DEVIL’S REJECTS but be prepared for violence and explicit language!
HEATH has a fantastic shriek that could have her as a Scream Queen any day of the week….:) I’m also excited by her extensive theater work that has seen her in productions such as “Pride and Prejudice” and “Littlest Mermaid”…wish i was near enough to watch her on stage. Formerly a Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleader, HEATH continues to captivate us with her abundant beauty and talents.
When i saw sadistic thriller ‘Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre’, i knew this was a cult classic! With strong character development in a slasher movie and a solid storyline binding the movie together, it rocked big time. Standouts include Icelandic actress Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir who plays a whale-watching tourist with a penchant for younger men, a distaste for chauvinism and was unfortunately killed in violent fashion (don’t miss her awesome scenes above). Halldóra has a compelling poise and i personally think the Icelandic language is overtly sexy. I’m glad the internet has made Icelandic films so accessible as there’s some excellent talents in this country which has been called as the coolest in Europe!
The wave of impressive films churning out of Iceland, Sweden and the other Nordic countries are no fluke; European performers such as Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir are certainly giving their Hollywood counterparts a run for their money. A great story almost always needs great actors to tell it and Halldóra was inspiring in ‘Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre’. To affect a fan like me who’s on the other side of the world through her acting is exciting and her very interesting persona is why i made her the very first Icelandic starlet on my blog. Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir has shown that Iceland is not just about volcanic lakes, Sigur Ros and one Miss Tantrum-Throwing musical genius Björk; as one of her songs melodically spills out, Halldóra is Big Time Sensuality!
Find out more about her at IMDB: More Info on Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir.
