Bts shot one of the cast members took on set. Although I am not Muslim my grandparents who are immigrants from Iran are. For this film I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to travel to Colombia to do small cameo as a Muslim woman. My experience in Colombia was incredible, but I will admit when I wore this hijab people treated me a little differently. In this photo my cast mate Brent captured my emotions perfectly. I am grateful for this experience because it gave me more empathy towards the women who wear these everyday. Fear & ignorance are a very dangerous combination & we cannot let it win. It breaks my heart that these women are plagued with this stigma. Thank you @jamesgunn & Greg McLean for this experience. #thebelkoexperiment
She’s also starring in the horror film “The Belko Experiment” written by James Gunn, director of the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”. It’s a twisted tale of a violent social experiment that pits employees in a deadly game of survival sort of like a corporate Battle Royale. Filmed in Bogota, Colombia, Mikaela cameos as Raziya Memarian, a Muslim American, a testament of her adeptness of playing against type for we do acknowledge she’s a Sex Symbol. Besides delving into diverse roles, the keys to her success has also been her drive and her utmost support for women in the industry. With her enigmatic talents and the ardor she has for her peers, it’s incumbent we return the love to her. Both on and off screen, Mikaela is already a heroine in our eyes.
