It’s a wonderful thing to binge on the latest shows online as we are introduced to fetching faces such as Laura Covelli. She appears as Mrs Cusack in “13 Reasons Why” as a high school teacher who presides over the class that includes Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) who among others have received a tape from Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), a 17-years who killed herself. Almost Memento-like, the smart Netflix series based on the young adult novel written by Jay Asher sees the unfolding drama of the 13 people fingered by Hannah as the reason for her suicide. Produced by singing sensation Selena Gomez, it’s been hailed as a TV show that transcends its source material and it’s great that Laura is playing her part in the acclamation for “13 Reasons Why”.
Themes revolving about the woes of adolescence is something Laura is familiar with having starred in the violently disturbing thriller “Teenage Cocktail”. She played Mrs Lustig whose husband is seduced into a web of deceit by 2 young runaways Annie (Nichole Bloom) and Jules (Fabianne Therese) who are burgeoning criminals. While we know she’s a picture of sweetness, she shed the adorable disposition to essay the dreary wife whose family has the beginnings of the recipe for trouble. Laura has also been on the hit Nickelodeon show “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn” and HBO’s “Luck”.
On stage, she’s been quite the draw, amassing plaudits such as “a red-net clad Sin who adds highly seductive elements to Satan’s evil” in the production “TONIGHT PARADISE LOST: RECLAIMING DESTINY”. Laura is a member of the Not Man Apart Physical Theatre Ensemble as well as the LA Women’s Shakespeare Company. Let’s hope she gets to dive into a sensual role on a feature or television show in the near future. She’s easy on the eyes and a definite sizzler.
